I will rank my most important ingredients of making a literate physics student. 1. Viewing and Listening 2. Visual Representation and Writing 3. Speaking and Reading In order to be literate in Physics, your student must be able to be able to view and listen very well. In order to be successful in Physics, you must be able to understand the steps in a problem, then be able to be on your own, and show me, through your work, that you know how to go through these steps to find the correct answer on a piece of paper. If you are not able to first view and listen to the steps I give in a problem, then you will be lost all of the time. Next, it is critical that you are able to visually represent and write. If you are not able to represent the steps and work that is needed for a problem to find the answer, how will I ever be able to know that you know how to put these steps in the right order and plug in the right numbers. Lastly, you will need to speak and read well. I will have many long story problems in my assignments, and if you cannot find the critical information from the story problems, you will not be able to find the write way to answer the question. On the back side of this all, if you really understand the problem, you will be explain it to others. This is where speaking skills are a necessity because how useful is information if you cannot explain it to someone else while
