When you think of profiling, what comes to mind? Do you know the difference between Gender profiling and racial profiling? Gender, racial and criminal profiling is more common then you think. I will explain the difference between all three profiling technics used by law officials. Profiling is not entirely bad in terms of keeping communities and cities safe. Gender profiling is defined as the use of personal characteristics or behavior patterns to make generalizations about a person. In other words gender profiling is discriminating a group or an affiliation based on their demographic characteristics. That must be an awful feeling being picked on by officers because of your traditions or how you are as a person. But in reality it’s real and people experience it on the regular basis. Gender profiling and very much an issue in the occupational side, women have been paid lower then men for years.
Racial profiling can occur if an officer, based on your appearance, race or even ethnicity, stops you. Racial profiling is illegal, which it violates the U.S. constitution’s promise of equal protection under the law to all and freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. “Profiling racially becomes ineffective, communities separate from law enforcement, hinders policing efforts and causes law enforcement to lose trust they sworn to protect and serve.” More then 240 years ago there was slavery.
