President De Klerk met with the ANC illegally in Lusaka to start the process .Politicians also probed the way and held discussions in secret. It was important that all parties sit and discuss the way forward. There were radical steps and change to be made and the timelines were not sustainable in the current economic environment .One can argue and say that it was all planned, but reality it wasn’t as simple and the main reasons in my opinion was that there was an assumption to change but realistically the support and the logistics had not been in place. Hence a slow process which has probably led to a worsen situation .Still to this underlying currents such as reaction from the Freedom party that are under a precarious leader, Julius Malema that would opt for the radical change that perhaps is not democracy at
