Wherever we go, whoever we meet, they have their own way of living. Each individual in our society shares a way of values and norms. Sometimes, it is the same to the other and sometimes the other way around. As I know, every individual is unique. No one is exactly alike with one another but despite of this, there are some point in life that we share the same norms and values.

Who are we? Where do we came from? What are the characteristics that we have? What are the things we believe in? all of that questions are running inside my mind. Then, I pause for a while and say “we are different to one another”, but being different is not the reason why people live together in chaos instead people are living in a unique and peaceful society despite of differences.

“Difference is not deficient”, this line bothers my mind in a while. We all know that many people who are living in this world have their way or style of living. Therefore, we are different to one another. Differences will not lead of being incomplete instead of being unique. Having diverse culture is not a problem. It only emphasizes that we are unique. We have these unique characteristics in living in the society especially if we can connect one different culture to the other culture. Through these differences, it is also a big help in understanding each individual because we have different beliefs in life. Through it, it will help build a strong foundation of the different existing culture. Forming a smaller culture is also a good idea. It will allow us to identify who we are. Joining a subculture will identify our functions in the society. In fact, our society has different needs in order to progress. Through these differences, we can now cater the needs of our society. We can now conclude that differences are not deficient instead it provide the missing parts in our society.

Identity. One thing people all around the world share in common. Now one might ask, what is identity? What does it mean? Well, the definition of identity is the fact of being who or what a person is. Do people know who they are? Have kids figured out their identity? The answer to these two questions are probably that you haven’t for most people. All of people’s lives they are always told “be yourself”, “find your true self” and “don’t be fake” etc. Even though everyone has been told all these things do they know how to find out their identity or even when. What about how certain things affect everyone's identity? Well outside forces can and will affect everybody's identity differently. One major outside force that will affect the identity of people all over the world is the society that we live in. The…

To live in a world were each and every culture is being judged. Therefore, Suzanna Fisher talks to one another about the cultural they lived in there we’re other problem they had. The article “Different is just different” by Suzanna Fisher Staples having to learn about other cultures fosters more peace in the world by teaching us not to fear differences but to become more compassionate people. Social media the news put the more important pieces before what happens to it all, different does not mean better or worse it just means different, women and poverty having them learn to make money. Being different can show one another that we all are equal. However, having to hear what the news is trying to tell you.…

It is very rare to meet people who are exactly alike. Even those who are generically identical, still have different personalities and characteristics. People often wonder, what exactly is it that makes us who we are? Is it the way people were raised? The environment they grew up in? The role models around them? The experiences they have been through? It would seem almost impossible to determine exactly what makes up the character of a person. It is often believed that it is a combination of elements that mold us all into who we are.…

Everyone in life grows up with their own distinct family values and family norms. According to James Henslin, values are the standards by which people define what is desirable or undesirable to them, and norms are the expectations of what is “right,” which develop from our own values. The way people determine what is right or wrong are by the sanctions they receive, which are the expressions of approval or disapproval for what they have done. All societies in the world develop their own expectations for behavior that eventually become part of the shared culture we live in today. Along with our shared culture and own family values and norms, exist what are called folkways and mores. Folkways are norms that are not strictly enforced to everyone.…

Introduction Human behavior is different all over the world. Society is different and therefore different things are expected of different people. Most people live according to what they believe is expected by their society and culture. People believe that in every culture there is a „right‟ way to live and a „wrong‟ way. There is a perception on how people should live, work, where they should work, why they should work, what they should eat, where they should, where their kids should play, go to school, what they should study…etc. It‟s as if there is this „life handbook‟ being handed down from generation to generation which has ALL the answers. Apparently every culture has one and EVERYONE knows it by heart and expects everyone else to live accordingly. People don‟t get along, there is constant conflict between who has to have what and everyone believes they are right. Where do we…

In my quest for meaning, I was forced to think deeply if our humanity (who we are and how we behave) might provide a clue as to where I came from. Our postmodern culture dismisses absolute truth and propagates that anything is permissible as long as it doesn’t hurt others. But not wanting to hurt others began to clue me in on why the concept of our humanness was important for…

What is it to be human? What makes US human? "Homelanding" by Margret Atwood does a pretty good job of describing these question. This story is describing us, the humans, to other beings. She talks about our looks, our habits, and what very deeply connects us together. The story is from the point of view of humans communicating with other beings. The over all purpose though, is the idea of someone's memories and experiences are much more important to learning how they act and live than their leaders.…

Before I write this report, let’s review a story. Do you remember Gump’s chocolates box? “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.” In my opinion, we are all like the chocolates in the box. We see that everyone in the world is different but we don’t know the total differences between each other. However, from a macro perspective, everybody has the same parts which belong with all human beings.…

“Human beings are more alike than different.” This is a statement that may be argued by many people. Personally I agree with this statement because even thought, all of us are unique individuals, but the purpose of our existence is the same. Humans are greedy, greed is a feeling where we want more than what most people have in the world. People are this way because of society and the world in general. People all want money, we cannot do much unless we have money. People choose to be greedy and keep money because they feel as if they earn it they have to keep it. Some people fake their divorce to get money from the government and even fake their income so they can get free medical care, food stamps. Humans are selfish, if there is one thing that we love the most in this world would be ourselves. We are no different from each other, we become selfish without seeing or knowing it because we always want to believe we're right at all costs. After we are born, we cry for our needs to be known, we cry to have attention. Slowly we learned to live with others and accommodate others but at times of crisis, our instincts tell us to save ourselves first. We judge and gossip others, even whole societies or whole other countries, on too little information or on media reports. Humans all want freedom, we all want freedom because everything we do has to do with freedom. Nothing could be done right without freedom, without freedom, we would be forced do to do things we do not want to do, and no way to change it at all. Consequently it is indeed that “human beings are more alike than different.”…

Recently, I read an article written by Clyde Kluckhohn, a professor of anthropology. It’s about the reason why there are differences and similarities among the world’s peoples. According to Professor Kluckhohn, it’s because of culture. People who live in the same culture share many things in common and different cultures shape different characteristics of people. I share the same point of view with him, based on my own experience and observation. In my opinion, different values in different cultures make people different.…

Humans have struggled throughout the centuries with the complexity and ambiguity of our humanity. The question of whom or what we are as humans is a difficult one and does not have an easy answer. Our first understanding of humanity is based within the framework of the worldview in which we were raised within. A worldview is not something that comes over night; it is something that surrounds you for your whole life, outlining the way in which you live. Although sometimes transparent, your worldview allows you to make decisions based on how you see the world.…

The capacity to think introspectively – to wonder about the world within – is one that is unique to mankind, and one that has led to age-old search for identity. Perhaps more intriguing than questions about the physical are questions about the world that cannot be seen, but that is felt in every aspect of life. This unseen world comprises things that may seem mundane, such as beliefs, principles, traditions, and culture, but those are an essential part of the fabric of human nature. This unseen world is the world of identity.…
