Portugal's discovery of a trade route to Asia was never believed to be existent until Bartolomeu Dias down the far coast of Africa until his crew and himself reached the tip, when they were arriving a huge storm rose and battered the ship for days eventually leaving them at the southeast coast of Africa. They were ecstatic and considered sailing to India, but his crew was tired and running out of supplies, so they sailed home. Upon their arrival they were treated like kings.
