Different Styles Of Leadership In Apple, Inc. By Steve Jobs
There are two main different styles of leadership, which are transactional leadership and transformational leadership. Transactional leaders are focussing on the result and performance of followers, focus on achievement of established goals, and unwilling to make the change to avoid risks. This leadership style is less consider on the culture, attitude, and feeling of followers while it is aim to achieve organisational objectives such as increase quality of products and services, reduce cost of production, and increase productivity of employees (Sadeghi & Pihie, 2012).
For this transactional leadership style, the leaders can be considered as “commander” when they command and give order to followers in order to achieve organisational objectives. The former chief executive officer (CEO) of Apple, Inc., Steve Jobs is using this transactional leadership because he stopped the work of followers and commanded his workers to focus on developing a product to make it perfectly when Apple has been busy with making several digital products (Steinwart & Ziegler, 2014). Leaders that implement transformational leadership have to understand all followers’ cultures and also create an organisational culture that can be accepted by every followers (Tsai, 2011). This organisational culture is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs, which govern how people behave in organisation (Willcoxson & Millett, 2000). It is important because it influence the dress, act, and way of performing jobs of people in the organisation (Omotayo & Adenike, 2013). Take the example of Tim Cook again, he has been developed a culture of learning within the company.
