There are lots of different types of abuse which could occur in many health and social care work places. The department of health state the definition of abuse is that it is a violation of a person’s human and civil rights by any other person or people. There have been media reports which indicate that abuse is a big issue occurring in care places such as homes which include people with disabilities. Examples of care homes which have been in the media are Long care Stoke Place, Winterbourne View and Stafford Hospital (Mid-Staffordshire Hospital Trust). This can result in the victim going on to act in a bad way such as saying verbal abuse to others therefore repeating the abusers words. This abuse is used to make others feel bad about themselves so that the abuser can feel good about them self.
Emotional abuse – this can be linked in with any other form of abuse as the victim will be feeling certain things and in a certain way. Emotional abuse is where a abuser will try to break the victim down emotionally resulting in the victim feeling bad about themselves all the time and the abuser being able to get inside a victim’s head whenever they wish to. Emotional abuse can involve name calling, saying someone is bad at what they do or how they act or making a victim feel bad inside constantly.
Financial abuse- this form of abuse is when a abuser will take money from a victim, whether the victim knows or not is a different matter. An abuser may simply steal money from a victim by going into their purse or wallet and taking money or by doing it in a sneaky manner such as borrowing money or playing the victim to a game which they won’t …show more content…
It is important that abusers get caught and prosecuted and that the victims get the help they need. It is also important to prevent things like this from happening in the future by safeguarding and speaking out about things that a person may have seen or noticed in another. Places such as the ones mentioned in the presentation were involved in most of the types of abuse discussed and nothing was done about it until it was captured on film. Patients at these places had to go through experiences of abuse on a daily basis whether it was happening to them or to others they still had to endure the events. Therefore in the future I think it should be highly important for people to speak out things happening to them or things they know are happening to others so that abuse can be stopped and prevented from happening again or to another
