The complexity of love is confusing in the love story of Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare sends the the theme that love causes serious complications in Romeo and Juliet. He conveys this theme in Romeo’s relationships with Rosaline and Juliet.
One way Shakespeare conveys the theme is in Romeo and Rosalines’ relationship from Romeo and Juliet. Romeo tells Benvolio about his love by saying, “Out of her favor where I am in love / Alas that love, whose view is muffled still, Should without eyes see pathways to his will!” (I.i, lines 178-182). Juliet states, “‘Tybalt is dead, and Romeo...banished, That ‘banished’, that one word ‘banished’ Hath slain ten thousand Tybalts’” (III.ii, lines 123-125). In this quote Juliet says that her true love Romeo being banished is as bad as Tybalt dying 10,000 times. This proves the theme because Juliet has become overly obsessed with Romeo and has made him her first priority. Romeo says at the Capulet tomb, “For here lies Juliet, and her beauty makes This vault a feasting presence full of light...I still will stay with thee, will stay forever And never from this palace of dim night Depart again…” (V.iii, lines 85-108). Romeo loves Juliet so much that he is willing to kill himself in order to be with her forever. This proves the theme because Romeo plans suicide because of his love, which is a the ultimate problem.
William Shakespeare expresses the theme that love causes complications in several ways in Romeo and Juliet. The theme is proven in Romeo’s relationships with Rosaline and Juliet. Once you and your true love have met, don’t follow the example set by Romeo and
