Dim Sum
In Hong Kong, Dim Sum is a traditional food.There are many elderly go to Dim Sum restaurants regularly, not only in the morning, but also at lunch time. In addition to satisfy their appetite, it is already a part of life for some people who go to Dim Sum restaurant every day in Hong Kong. In my view, Dim Sum should be the best item to represent Hong Kong culture. It is because Dim Sum exemplify unique characteristic of Hong Kong culture. In the following, I will introduce some of the characteristics of Hong Kong culture. There are three characteristics: the multicultural character of Hong Kong, a mix of eastern and western culture, the traditional and special meaning with the family.

I will begin by the multicultural character of Hong Kong. When in the early years ago, there were just a few types of dim sum. Subsequently, the types of Dim Sum has evolved over the years, today, many different types of Dim Sum are available for choose. Vegetarian Dim Sum as a good example to show that Hong Kong food culture is multiculturalism. Recent years, many Hong Kong people are increasing emphasis on healthy, they pay more attention to the food they eat. They will choose the food use less oil and MSG(Monosodium Glutamate). And also, some of Hong Kong people, they become a vegetarians. Vegetarian Dim Sum is come into being. This can reflect the one of the characteristic of Hong Kong culture.

Apart from multicultural character of Hong Kong, a mix of eastern and western culture also a characteristic of Hong Kong culture. In recent years, the cooking methods of Dim Sum have some changed. There are some fusion methods. For example, Steamed BBQ Pork Bun is a traditional Dim Sum you can eat in the Dim Sum restaurant.But, today, some of the restaurant reform the cooking method of the Steamed BBQ Pork Bun, use western bread with traditional BBQ Pork Bun mix to create a fusion Pork Bun.
