Disappointment In The Army
I am writing this essay as a plan of action because I managed to miss a scheduled appointment. Missing a scheduled appointment may seem like a rather miniature infraction, but if you think about it and trace it back far enough it has a negative impact on all parties involved in it. Missing an appointment shows a lack of accountability on my part, effects the army as a whole; as well, it costs the Army money for another who may have needed that appointment. Service members are held to higher standards than civilians are. We protect our country and being a Soldier I am supposed to lead by example and I cannot lead if I cannot even show up for any of my appointments on time. Missing my appointment shows a lack of accountability as well as a lack of discipline and a lack of respect for those appointed over as a leader. To be accountable for our actions

and to do what is right in the presence of mental and physical adversity; embodies the meaning of being an Army Soldier, of living the Warrior Ethos and upholding the Army Values.
A lack of discipline also diminishes the sustainability and readiness of our force and destroys the trust, good faith, and hope the American public has placed in the hands of the Army. The absence of discipline and standards negatively affects the hierarchical rank system within the Army. Missing an appointment not only affects the army but also the people that I missed the appointment with. These people set aside their time which is very valuable to help and or assist military personnel in whatever issue they may have. Whether it is medical, dental or any other assistance offered to the army and their soldiers. Missing an appointment waste their time and wastes
their resources. When an appointment is missed, the space is not always filled with the next appointment; sometimes, the time slot may just go unused. When that happens, it also prevents other patients from using that appointment slot. Missed appointments also can result in impaired continuity of care and possibly continued or unaddressed health problems. NRMC has calculated that each missed appointment costs the Army an average of between $80 - $100 in prospective earnings. With more than 66,000 no-shows in the seven NRMC medical facilities across the region last year, this cost the Army more than $4.66 million, and greatly affected our ability to provide timely, cost-efficient care. Ensuring you do your part in cancelling an unwanted appointment allows to open that slot for someone else, and also prevents the Army from losing the revenue that is relied on to continue providing world-class service to our Soldiers, family members and retirees. I need to cancel my appointments at the very least 24 hours in advance. There are several ways to cancel an appointment. TRICARE Online is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at www.tricareonline.com or the Alternative option would be when you receive the automated appointment reminder phone call prior to your appointment, just listen to the prompts and push to cancel. The Army allows us to make appointments for whatever we need. Be if for a medical appointment, house goods etc. Whatever we need the resources are there. However, when the soldier misses appointments the system starts to become inefficient. Lessoned learned, I will not be missing any other appointments.
