In the movie Wit, the main character Vivian really value learning, which is why she committed herself to be part of the study. Vivian is a successful English professor who has accomplished many things; however, her obsession in education causes her to have lack of social interaction or friends. While Vivian is an intelligent woman, she does not have the knowledge what life and death really means. When Vivian first found out that she has a rare type of cancer, that has no cure yet, Vivian was quite shocked. She agreed and signed up to be part of the study to test the new medications for her cancer without time to think about it thoroughly. Vivian claimed later in the movie that when she signed the consent paper, she should have read it carefully; she has no idea what she was getting herself into. In the beginning, I believe Vivian wanted to contribute to the study, but towards the end of her life, she just wanted to be heal.

Throughout the movie, Jason shows no compassion, sympathy, or any professionalism within his position. For example, during the pelvic exam, his behavior was inappropriate which makes Vivian felt uncomfortable and humiliated. Jason barely displayed any sign of sympathy or caring towards his patient.
