While John is in jail he has a chance to go and talk to Elizabeth, his wife, she is also in jail. He has the chance to either confess to being part of Satan or he will be hung. John and Elizabeth were released to go and talk to one another about the consequences that John is facing. John ends up choosing to get hung because he has committed to many sins in his lifetime. Proctor says, “I speak my own sins; I cannot judge another. Abigail and John were the main victims of being dishonest and lying to all of Salem, in and out of court. Throughout the book Abigail is dishonest because she has committed witchcraft and will not confess to it in court. She causes the death of many other people, all because she did not confess to witchery. In the end of the book John is hung for his sins, and Abigail and some of the girls from the witchery group escape to Barbados to get away from their punishment, they would have if they stayed in Salem.
