Answer: Adult: I would address the situation by reporting and recording it. If I overheard someone making a discriminating against a collegue or a child in my setting I would challenge them in a calm and professional way and explain to them that what they were saying or doing, is unacceptable and explain why. I would challenge discrimination actively by acting as a role model for positive behaviour and by encouraging people to challenge discrimination themselves.
Child: If I witness a discriminatory incident by a child I would bring myself down to the same level as the child and explain to them that it was not a nice thing to say, and it could hurt another child's feelings. Just because another child has different skin colour, or beliefs or speaks a different language does not make them any different to you.
