Diversity And Inclusion
Diversity literally means difference. Diversity recognises that though people have a lot of things in common, they are also very different and unique. It is about recognising and taking account of those differences. Diversity consists of visible and non-visible factors, which include back ground, culture, work-style and personality in addition to the characteristics that are protected under discrimination legislation such as race, disability, religion and belief, sexual orientation, gender, and age. By seeing and understanding our individual differences and embracing them, and move beyond simple tolerance, we can create a productive environment in which everybody feels valued. Equality? Answer: Adult: I would address the situation by reporting and recording it. If I overheard someone making a discriminating against a collegue or a child in my setting I would challenge them in a calm and professional way and explain to them that what they were saying or doing, is unacceptable and explain why. I would challenge discrimination actively by acting as a role model for positive behaviour and by encouraging people to challenge discrimination themselves.

Child: If I witness a discriminatory incident by a child I would bring myself down to the same level as the child and explain to them that it was not a nice thing to say, and it could hurt another child's feelings. Just because another child has different skin colour, or beliefs or speaks a different language does not make them any different to you.
I would ask them if they said the same thing to you would you like it? How would you feel?
I would make sure they understood what I was saying and I do not want to hear or see this behaviour again. I would also get them to apologise to the child as then they both know its not a nice thing to do to each other and make sure both children are

    You should always challenge discrimination at school, but to do it, it is essential that you can recognise anti-discrimination practice. All schools have a discriminatory policy which all teachers and teaching assistants should read and follow. My role is to protect children and young people from discrimination, if you ignore discrimination when it happens this will be viewed as condoning. When discrimination happens it may be intentional, but it can also be because of ignorance or lack of understanding. It is not easy to change the views of others, but you must challenge discriminatory comments and actions. It is important to learn assertiveness strategies that can help you recognise discrimination. When challenging discrimination you should: explain what has happened or what has been said that is discriminatory, you should state the effect of this on the individual, group and others, and suggest ways to ensure anti-discriminatory practice. If you consider how a child might feel when they have experience discrimination: loss of self-esteem, disempowerment, confusion, anger, lack of motivation and sometimes depression. When child reports it, but is then ignored by the member of staff who is there to support them the chid would then feel that member of staff would share the same view of the perpetrator or believe that the way they have been treated is normal.     According to Andresen (2007), there are three main dimensions of diversity within a person’s personality, which are organizational, external, and internal dimensions. First, organizational dimensions start at the functional level. Second, external dimensions are based from experience. Third, are the internal dimensions, which are based on personal issues (p. 745).
