Perhaps it would be more enjoyable thinking about housework as an opportunity to lose us in another new world. “The Zen of Housework” by Al Zolynas is a wonderful poem about finding the sacred in those most ordinary tasks. Seeing the kind of sacred in Al’s housecleaning also requires a great sense of humor. Every Saturday growing up was and still is “chore day” in the Jones house and it comes early and lasts for hours. My parents believe in making us work for the things we want as well as showing them we appreciate what they do for us by doing chores. It is because of this, that I believe I have learned to work hard in what I am doing and to be thankful for the things that have been given to me. I think children should be raised doing chores not for money, but out of gratitude for their parents and all that they do for them, and just to learn a good work ethic at an early age. Since I can remember, my parents had us doing chores as kids.…
