The early years curriculum that supports children's care learning and development is the foundation phase. Foundation phase promotes learning through play. There are 7 areas of learning that consists of:…
Providers must plan and provide experierices which are appropriate to each child’s stage of development as they progress towards the early learning goals.…
It outlines a cumulative and coherent progression of knowledge and skills in all developmental areas and integrates developmentally appropriate practices for both content and instruction. Using the core knowledge curriculum helps with creating appropriate activities that prepare the preschool age children to learn. Children are always ready to learn; as long as the teacher understands that, each child will be eager to learn in new and exciting ways. It is important for teachers to make sure that the information that they wish to teach the children in the classroom is appropriate and fun. The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence Curriculum focuses on five different areas: Social Skills, Early Literacy skills in reading and writing, Mathematics, Science and Visual…
They are designed to guide prekindergarten administrators and teachers in designing and implementing appropriate early learning environments. Working with four-year-olds requires knowledge of early childhood growth and development, as well as recognition of the diversity children present (e.g., racial, ethnic, cultural, economic, language, and social background differences). Although families and communities are most influential, high-quality early learning environments are associated with improved cognitive, social, and language skills. With a sound understanding of what children know and are able to do, teachers can individualize the curriculum and create environments that move children toward kindergarten ready to…
We invite you to make “individualized adaptations in teaching strategies, learning environments, and curricula; and consult with the family so that each child benefits from the program” (NAEYC, 2005, p.3). This will help us effectively meet the needs of each child. We understand that families are of primary importance in children’s development since they are their primary teachers. The staff at Creative Minds comprehends a “primary responsibility to bring about communication, cooperation, and collaboration between the home and early childhood program in ways that enhance the child’s development” (NAEYC, 2005, p. 3). Therefore, our staff strives to develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve. Also, we strive to provide the community with high-quality early childhood care and education programs and services. We understand our responsibilities to the community are to provide programs that meet the diverse needs of families, to cooperate with agencies and professions that share the responsibility for children (NAEYC, 2005, p.…
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by Early Childhood Educators who support the physical, social, emotional, psychological, language and creative development of children from 0-12 years of age.…
This is accomplished by identifying developmentally and culturally appropriate activities and materials daily for each child. In order to ensure a smooth transition I have implemented procedures to include entering and departing the center, going from one activity to another and from one group to another. In the process of having a purposeful program a cohesive relationship is a must and will be attained by using all available resources addressing the individual needs of the child and working with parents. This can be accomplished by recognizing possible learning problems or exceptional skills that a child may have working with parents and specialist to develop plans specific to the needs of each child and if necessary make referrals. Follow up on the child’s progress is very important and is conducted on a predetermined…
Today many public schools have pre-kindergarten programs. The children in these programs come from different experiences, backgrounds, and all have different needs. Pre-kindergarten programs give children an advantage to learning prior to kindergarten. I performed my second filed observation at Pinkston Street Elementary School in Henderson, NC. The elementary school is in a rural county and this school has lots of diversity in which there are African-American, Caucasian, and Mexican students. The classroom that I observed is one of four pre-kindergarten classrooms in the school. The elementary school is also one of three of the schools in the county to require…

The Head Start program at Madison Heights Elementary School was a classroom full of educational and fun activities for the students and the teachers. The class was an involved and busy group, but ready to also learn when the opportunity came their way. Three teachers – Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Arrowood and Mrs. Morefield – gave their classroom plenty of attention, and a nice balance between play and learning time, or a combination of the two.…
As early childhood educators we all have our own philosophies and approaches to education. There are several types of early childhood programs. Each program has its own philosophies, methods, and program goals. Every early childhood educator is unique making each early childhood program experience special. Consistently, early childhood programs offer educational foundations that prepare young students for their educational futures. In this paper I will focus on comparing and contrasting two programs that stood out to me, Ridgeline Montessori and the Whitaker Head Start.…
To determine if an early childhood program is high quality or not depends on several qualities. One important quality is the physical setting the indoor environment must be clean in good repair and well ventilated. Un-sanitized environment can lead to the spread of germs and viruses making it easier for children to become sickly or ill. Classroom space must be divided into richly equipped activity areas, including but not limited to make believe play, blocks, science, math, games, puzzles, books, art and music. Children enjoy learning about a subject more when there is a lot of information dedicated to one particular subject. It also becomes easier to divide the children into groups and have certain groups at certain stations switching periodically. For example the teacher or instructor may say, “Red group you are at the math station today, Blue group you have computer lab today”, etc... Children must also get outside time, as physical education is equally important as developing the mind. The facility should be equipped with, but not limited to, fenced area for outdoor play, swings, climbing equipment, tricycles and a jungle gym.…
The purpose of my proposed study is to analyze the values of early childhood education in the public schools system. There are several things that I hope to accomplish by conducting this research. This research will further illustrate how a sound foundation on certain skills enhances the readiness for those students entering kindergarten. This research will also provide possible solutions for kindergarten retention rates in the public schools system. I plan to investigate the answers to my questions using data, personal interviews with teachers, research based journals and magazines. I plan to utilize documents such as report cards and standardized test scores from schools. There are several sub-questions that I plan to examine such as: How and when do we know a child is ready for kindergarten? What measures are being used to assess the readiness of kindergarten? Why does full-day kindergarten work? I am a Kindergarten teacher who has benefited greatly from having a sound foundation early in my academic career. Therefore, I will keep an open mind throughout this paper and only state facts based on information found during my research.…
