Colors have been known to be aesthetically pleasing due to their abilities to express emotion, symbolize specific things, or determine characteristics about an individual. It is commonly known to the general public that colors are gender specific; most girls prefer pink and purple, boys prefer blue and red, and a small population is attracted to neutral colors. This preference for certain colors has a heavy influence on the design and creation of play zones for children.…

I started with the conservation of number task by lining up two rows of Skittles with five skittles in each row. The concept of this activity is to rearrange the Skittles in each row so that one appears longer than the other due to the increased amount of space between each Skittle. Based on the child’s response the observer is able to ascertain the child’s level of cognitive development. The first child that I sat down and talked with was Lela. Lela was a blonde three year old with brown eyes and a violet coat. She liked me right away because my purple sweatshirt matched her coat. After showing me how well her yellow socks, pants and shirt matched, and after she made me watch her do a summersault we started the activity. Lela’s age indicated that she was in the preoperational…
Effect of maternal predator exposure on the ability of stickleback offspring to generalize a learned color-reward association published Elsevier focuses around the cognitive abilities of threespine sticklebacks, otherwise known as Gasterosteus aculeatus.. In this study two experiments took place. The first Can Sticklebacks Generalize a Learned Color-Reward Association? Which tested the ability of threespine sticklebacks juveniles to be trained to recognize color in association with food. The second experiment, Does Maternal Predator Exposure Affect Offspring Generalization of a Color-Reward Association? Focuses on predatory-prey behavior in which to see if eating behavior is disturbed if the maternal threespine sticklebacks is affected…
Gender plays an important role in the way children are raised in today’s society. The common stereotype that feminine toys are for girls and masculine toys are for boys is prevalent, even with all of the political advancements our society has made to try to free the world from these stigmas. It starts as early as when a child is in the mother’s womb. Most women will celebrate the arrival of their bundle of joy with a baby shower. Pink colors will be used for baby girls and blues for baby boys. In toy stores you will find aisles filled with toys separated by gender: baby dolls for girls and action heroes for boys. During ages three to five children enter their peak playing ages where their minds are most vulnerable to absorb everything and anything at once. Due to a failing economy, many more families are depending on early childcare programs to care for their children while they are forced to have both parents enter the workforce. During this sensitive, and impressionable time in a…
Artificial tanning is a way of tanning without being in the sun. People should not tan too much because, "The quest for tan contributes to frequent visits, but the behavior is also addictive" ("Indoor tanning"). Although you think you may need to tan, it is not good to do all the time. The behavior could be addictive because you have to go a lot of times to see a difference. The reason people tan in tanning beds so much is…
Colors have been bringing emotions out of humans since before we can remember. In an article on color psychology, the author states, “the impact that colors have on our brains is used to manipulate our decision making by multiple facets of society.” It’s always been a question if it really does make humans feel a certain way or if it just seems that way because that’s how we’ve been taught. Colors have been proven to evoke emotions because many studies have been made to show that it does, scientists have given reasons as to why colors can make humans feel a certain emotion, and the emotions they make humans feel have been used to others’ advantages.…
We can all agree that food dye is bad for you, so why dump it in candy for children to eat? In the NPR Heath segment titled “FDA Probes Link Between Food Dyes”, Michael Jacobson, director of the Center of Science in the Public Interest, says,”Food dyes are simply added to make the food fun. They serve no purpose whatsoever.”The text also states “Red 40 dye may cause symptoms of hypersensitivity in some people, including swelling (specifically around the mouth) and hives. Researchers have also associated food dyes with problems in children including allergies, hyperactivity, learning impairment and irritability and aggressiveness.”Strawberry Twizzlers Twists® contain Red 40 dye. While most popular candy companies use food dye with lots of harmful chemicals, such as benzene, a known carcinogen in Red 40 and Yellow 5 and 6. According they could use natural coloring. For example, instead of using Red 40 dye in Strawberry and Cherry Twizzlers®, the company could use the vibrant red coloring of beets. Trust me, they stain quite well. The company could also use raspberries as a red food dye. Thankfully, these natural food dyes do not interfere with the taste. This is just another considerable reason for Hershey’s to reconsider their Twizzlers and adjust the factors to make this candy…
Many elementary schools have reduced or eliminated recess during the school day in an attempt to improve test scores. That has been especially true since the No Child Left Behind Act introduced in 2001. In order to allow for more instruction time for achievement standards to be met, more time was spent in the classroom resulting in something having to be cut out of the school day. In most cases, that is recess. However, doing so has not had the desired results and children have been losing out on very important aspects of their development. Having recess is vital to the development of children because it helps them to perform better academically in school, it gives them the opportunity to learn the social skills needed throughout life, and it improves their physical well-being.…
Colour adds dimension, meaning, and beauty to life. Addressing the physiological, psychological, aesthetic, and technical aspects of color is an important part of a designer's job. As a form of energy, colour effects our emotions, state of mind and physiology within a space. Colour can…
In Kindergarten, my biggest problem was choosing which color I wanted to color with. My scene was always the same, as I was never the best artist. I would always draw a sun in the top right corner of the page, a giant tree right in the middle, clouds, grass, and a few flowers at the base of the tree. It was always the same; the picture never changed. However, something did change: the colors I used.…
INtroDucTioN:Cartoons have been a staple of childhood development since the early 20th century. Two thirds of infants and toddlers watch an average of two hours of television a day, according to a recent study. While watching cartoons, a child's brain processes graphic images, educational information and violent acts. These brain-stimulating factors have both positive and negative effects on children's development. Cartoons are the most frequent and easily accessible source of entertainment which we provide to our children. With the vastness of media and extension of channels, it has become easier for children to watch their favorite cartoons on a single click and at the same time it has become more convenient for parents to provide children with this all-time favorite activity of theirs. Time which was previously spent by children in outdoor activities is now replaced, as now they can be found glued to the TV sets for long hours, peering at all sorts of cartoons, mostly without the supervision of elders who are completely unaware that this might have certain effects on their psychological development later on displayed in their behavior patterns.…
The reaction paper is correlated to the “Taking Sides” issues, this is the 2 issue. I have chosen this topic, because I found it quite interesting and argumentative. But as I have understood part “NO” (Jib Fowles from The Case for television violence) does not provide clear opposition, but mainly criticize part “Yes” (W. James Potter form On the Media violence). Many argue that the reason of violence among teenagers and young adults in reality is about the violence shown on TV. In my reaction paper I will try to more or less clarify two points of view, give my own opinion about the topic in general and about two opposite sides. I will try to answer some questions like whether the violence on TV is harmful for younger generation or not? What impacts it has? What other influences exists? And so on.…
One of the problems we face today with kids, is their hyperactivity, swinging modes, early maturity, using bad language, being stubborn, aggressive and violent. According to lots of researches and from parental point of view it could be said that one of the main reasons of children’s psychological and misbehavior is what they watch on TV. TV can glue kids for hours in front of it, and it’s usually without supervision. Cartoons are the most frequent and easily accessible source of entertainment which we provide to our kids. Children form their personality in their early years and up to 7, and in these years of their life their lives they spend a lot of time watching cartoons. In this research we will study some of the messages the daily TV cartoons convey to our kids, and how they affect the formation of their personality, their habits and how it causes psychological problems for them.…
