Carnegie believed that people were born with certain attributes that would lead them to be successful in their lifetime. He also mentioned the idea that we as human beings should accept the conditions that are placed in front of us and work around them to achieve the impossible. Also he believed that it is up to one’s ability and energy that will allow them to produce the wealth that they seek for themselves.
2. What are three ways Carnegie suggest to dispose of personal wealth?
The first suggestion Carnegie offered was that of leaving your wealth to your families when you passed away. Allowing your loved ones to have financial well-being. The second suggestion that Carnegie bestowed
to us was that of giving back to the community. Then his third and final suggestions was donating your profits to a charitable organization. Carnegie himself donated “400 million dollars” of his own fortune to help fund churches, hospitals, parks, libraries, numerous universities, and many other facilities all to help his community.
3. What criteria did Carnegie establish for administering charitable resources? Are his reasons consistent?
Carnegie’s criteria for administering charitable resources included the “consideration to help those who will help themselves to provide them with the means by which those who desire to improve can have the tools to do so, to give those who “desire to rise the aids by which they may rise”.
Carnegie’s reasons were not consistent. He discussed concerns about the “distribution” of charitable resources and that the “amount which can be wisely given… [to] individuals is necessarily limited, … for in alms-giving more injury is probably done by rewarding the vice than by relieving virtue”.
