It contains brines of gas and oil fields, especially Japan and the United States. The origin of Iodine is iodes meaning violet. The atomic mass of Iodine is 126.90, and the atomic number is 53. The proton is 53 and so is the electron. To get the neutron I subtracted the atomic mass from the atomic number and get 74. Iodine is rare in both the Earth’s crust and solar system. It’s the 60th most common Element in the Earth’s crust. Mammals use it to build thyroid hormones. Iodine is well-known for its use as a disinfectant. Iodine’s melting point is 113.5°C (236.3°F).
