“He was dragging her and all her scalp was hanging by her side. He wouldn't turn her loose. He would let her go and attacked her again. I saw police shoot the dog with a stun gun. That's the only way they could cut him loose.”-Rudy Bernal. This was a report from someone’s “family” dog, a pitbull, attacking a person. This is why I believe that fighting dogs like pitbulls and Rottweilers should not be kept by the general public.
There is a tremendous amount of danger for your own children and others around you. In another case, Allen Young, 22 months old, was mauled to death by his father's four pit bulls. These were his father’s Pitbulls, and they knew his child pretty well, so why did they attack him? This brings me to my next point.
They were bred to fight and are very aggressive. The Pitbull and Rottweiler have a very long history as fighting dogs. The Pitbulls probably saw the child as another animal and attacked him. This kind of action is very common for Pitbulls. During a 7-year period from 2005 to 2011, Pitbull’s and Rottweiler’s accounted for 73% of the total recorded fatal attacks.
The Rottweiler’s bite could kill a human in minutes. Its bite force is 328lbs, and a pitbull’s is 235lbs. To put that in perspective, a lion’s bite force is 400-600lbs. This is the reason why people that get attacked have no chance to get away or fight back.
Some argue that it’s all myth when people say these dogs are aggressive, or known for attacking, but the reality is that Rottweiler’s and pitbull’s make up for over 70% of fatal dog attacks. They are bred to fight and kill.
Too many people are hearing that pitbull’s are great dogs, and will always be by your side. The facts speak for themselves. These types of dogs should not be kept and bred by the general public (or anyone else for that matter).
