Writing Before Writing Summary

The article on Writing Before Writing by Donald Murray is explaning the process of writing and how the writing process done. The writing process has many steps to it and the steps are brainstorming , pre-writing and drafting. The important point in doing the writing process is to take time to find what is interesting to write about and your instructor should give you a prompt and you choose and it must approach the audience which is your teachers. Pre-writing is not supposed to be analytical it should be more of a creative process. Writing is not supposed to be boring it’s supposed to open your mind to help you put your ideas in writing Donald Murray says that “Usually the writer sees something which might be called gestalt which is in words of the dictionary “a unified physical psychological or symbolic configuration having properties that cannot be derived from its parts” says Donald Murray author of Writing Before Writing).Writing is like a
brain storming game which requires you to use your brain to help you brainstorm ideas onto your paper.
Donald Murray says” I can’t write while the good students smugly pass their papers in before the end of the period. Its saying that their no such thing a good or bad student and that there are some writers who have the ability to write a good paper and they turn it in right away while others have trouble turning in their papers before the end of class. When writers write they have know that have deadline in which the paper is due and it might seem like the deadline is far away but before you know its right around the corner and many writes get frustrated when it comes to writing papers which have a deadline. “The deadline is real,
absolute ,stern . and commanding says” (Donald Murray author of The Article Writing Before Writing ).
The writing process has many levels to it and it doesn’t come overnight and its not easy because its hard to write that perfect paper and receive a perfect grade. The writing process has its ups and downs but it helps to write and prepare a good enough paper. Its requires your full concentration and attention. You have to brainstorm your ideas and the you have write a rough draft and begin pre-writing. The hardest part of writing is the rough draft because you want your draft to look and sound like a good essay or paper. Donald murray is saying that the writing is not an easy process its demanading because all papers have deadlines and they meant to be done time no later then the deadline. Its very critical to write descent paper but most important the writer must follow the writing process steps in order for the paper to be accurate. Like Donald Murray said their no good or bad student each student is equally good at writing a decent paper.
