Dont Blame The Eater Summary
The idea of quick and convenient food service has grown around the world, especially in the United States. When I first came to the United States from Vietnam in 2010, I drove around my local fast food restaurant to tastes the different meals. Meanwhile I was enjoying my meals, I saw many overweight children of different ages around me. Seeing these young children caught my attention, because there is rarely much obese children among Vietnam. In fact, when I saw that, I asked myself how overweight people are to blame for their own health. Recently, I read an article about “Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko, who do a job the editor -in-chief of the fitness magazine Men’s health for many years, and he becomes president and CEO of Galvanized Brands. He argues Fast Food Company or the ones to blame for America obesity. Although I agree with his opinion, there are negative effects eat junk food, people need …show more content…
According to David, he mentions “My parents were split up, my dad off trying to rebuild his life, my mom working long hours to make the monthly bills. Lunch and dinner, for me, was a daily choice between McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken or Pizza Hut”. Base on his opinion, I understand why he does not have an option because of his situation. Although I agree with David opinion on wrong label, family situation, I also disagree about his conclusion in his article “Without such warnings, we’ll see more sick, obese children and angrier, litigious parents. I say, let the deep fried chips fall where they may”. The reason why I disagree with him on his opinion because some people do not have the choices, they have the freedom to eat what they want, but they should control their eating habits, the author should not mention that they should not eat fast food because of wrong

Application-“Don’t blame the eater” SUMMMARY 1: Zinczenko claims that there are inexpensive and convenient alternatives to fast food, but I don’t believe that it is true. Most restaurants are very expensive and sometimes just as unhealthy as fast food restaurants. These restraints also can serve the same thing as any fast food restaurant does. SUMMARY 2: In “Don’t blame the eater” Zinczenko states that being overweight is a problem of cultural stereotypes, but is it? Being overweight can be a genuine medical problem too.…

In the essay “Don’t Blame the Eater”, David Zincezenko talk about how fast food has contributed to the increasing amount of obese and unhealthy children in the U.S. Over the years many people has tried to sue these fast food restaurants like McDonalds, KFC, and Taco Bell for making them fat. David uses his own personal experience growing up to help bring perspective to everyone of how easy it is for people to choose unhealthy eating habits. He talk about how his mom worked and didn’t really have time to cook, so to make sure he ate she would have him choose something to eat that would be quick and not the most expensive. If you are looking for something that is inexpensive and a “quick buy” then fast food would be the most convenient. He also…

The essay that caught my interest is "Don't Blame the Eater" because this relates to almost every child in the United States. We as adults need to educate ourselves and the next generation. Fast food is a growing industry and it's not going anywhere. Picking up McDonald's is an easy solution because we don't have to cook, but the risk factor is very dangerous. Children don't care about the health issues they care about the taste.…

David Zinczenko’s essay, “Don’t Blame the Eater,” (New York Times, November 23, 2002) emphasizes the idea that the large conglomerates may be held accountable for some legal responsibility for the skyrocketing rate of obesity in America within children. He uses anecdotal evidence from his past to argue that it is not the consumer’s fault that they are experiencing health issues, it is the multinational corporations that own the most well known fast food restaurants. Zinczenko starts by saying that he has been a victim of these large conglomerates as a younger boy. He states that he had a daily task of choosing where to have his lunch and dinner between four well-known fast food chains. Zinczenko also shares that he lost…

What is the value of freedom? Not the effort of achieving freedom but the extent of its value. Should an individual control every aspect of their life or should they not? This is an important question when it comes to the fast food industry. Fast food annual revenue is an outstanding 170 billion dollars per year: diabetes has never been higher and yet we are still pondering on a problem that has not been resolved. The problem between people and fast food has been a recent problem in the Unites States with the industry continually growing. The root of the problem is that people are not in taking fast food at a moderate rate and the obesity index is climbing exponentially. This crisis is hard to stop because we all consume food and it’s needed for survival. In the United States you cannot deny a person the right to eat what they want. But yet it’s obvious that the fast food industry has the upper hand when it comes to people picking food. Propaganda techniques like offering toys for the young and advertising around every corner makes it hard for someone to resist the “perks” of fast food. David Zinczenko the editor and chief of Men’s Health explains his point of view of the fast food crisis in his article “Don’t Blame the Eater”. He doesn’t present a solution but his points are crucial to help stop this epidemic.…

Zinczenko argues that most teenagers who live a lifestyle based on a fast food diet might be destined for a lifetime obesity. For Example, David Zinczenko states in his article” Don’t Blame the Eater”, that “Before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by a genetic disorder-only about 5 percent of children cases were obesity related, or type 2, diabetes. Today, according to the National Institutes of Health, Type 2 diabetes accounts for at least 30 percent of all new childhood cases of diabetes in this country. Not surprisingly, money spent to treat diabetes has skyrocketed, too. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that diabetes accounted for $2.6 billion in health care costs in 1969. Today’s number is an unbelievable $100 billion a year” (Zinczenko 242). He argues that it is the fast food chains’ fault that diabetes and other obesity illnesses have risen in the few past years because they did not provide calorie information on fast food packaging or do not have warning labels on their product. David Zinczenko also argues that the fast food industry are to blame for obesity because they are aiming and marketing towards children their product even though the fast food chains know the proven health issues that there is and provide no warning…

David Zinczenko is the editor-in-chief of Men’s Health magazine and the author of numerous best-selling books. Zinczenko is a man known for his work; his work and credibility shines bright because he has contributed op-ed essays to the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. He has also appeared on Oprah, Ellen, 20/20, and Good Morning America. The fact that he is so accomplished in the area of eating healthy shows just how credible he is when it comes to discussing fast food vs. the eater. Zinczenko believes that the fast food industry is partly at fault for the growing rate of obesity. Although Zinczenko’s background and accomplishments gives us the evidence we need to know in order to trust his judgments, his emotional way of getting his points across make a difference as well. In the beginning of the essay, Zinczenko tells us about himself and how he grew up with troubled parents who weren’t together, and with very little options of what to eat for lunch and dinner every day. He explains that his options were mainly fast food, which caused him to be an overweight teenager. In other words, he uses his story of himself as a teenager growing up with family problems to draw people in and get them to sympathize with the overweight teenagers and get them to see that it is not all their fault and that it is, in fact, partly the fast food industry’s fault. One of his final arguments is that without warning labels on fast food industry products, we will see more sick, obese children and more angry parents.…

Even thought David Zinczenko and Radley Balko take two different approaches on whom should be blamed for obesity, they are actually in agreement that people should become more responsible with what they eat. This common ground becomes clear through Radley Balko argues its personal responsibility to choose what they out in their mouths, while David Zinczenko argues there should be more alternatives for the youth to eat then fast food. Both authors have great point about responsibility and alternative. Obesity should come to an end before it continues putting end to people’s life.…

When it comes to the topic of America’s social problems, most of us will readily agree that the obesity epidemic is one of the major problems in America’s society now. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of who is responsible for this problem. Whereas some are convinced “Don’t Blame the Eater”, that the fast-food industry is responsible, other maintains that is a personal responsibility and what you eat is your business. My feeling on the issue are mixed. I do support Radley Balko’s position that it is a personal responsibility “What you eat is you business”. However I find that Radley Balko has over looked some issue on the corporation’s side and I also agree with David Zinczenko’s argument that it is corporate responsibility.…
