The following is designed to help you with your first assignment on this programme, at this level of study. In lesson 1 – we looked at the “HR Contribution” – and HR being based on core principles. The text book also provides a section on ‘What is HRM’. These should help with your definition. You may also use seek definitions of HR as a profession – from the CIPD website, alternative text books, or other sources. In lesson 3 we covered how HR provides a service to a range of customers. This is part of the function of HR.
Having this as your basis will then allow you to briefly describe the HRPM and explain how it defines the HR professional – i.e. how it supports your definition and underpins the services HR provides to its customers.
Remember to consider the different roles and aspects of HR as a profession and the attributes required for these roles, also the career progression through the profession. This will enable you to link the theory to the map.
