Dr. Kirchman's Serendipitous Science

According to Dr. Kirchman’s presentation, “Serendipitous Science,” an experiment is the possibility of learning something new. An experiment should be something unexpected, and the pursuit of new information. For instance, microwave ovens by Percy Spencer. While Dr. Spencer was working for the Raytheon Corporation, he discovered the use of microwaves. One day he had a candy bar in his pocket, and found that it had melted. He realized that the microwaves he was working with had caused it to melt. After experimenting, he realized that microwaves would cook foods quickly and even faster than conventional ovens that cook with heat.
As a college student we have to make the right decisions, in order to accomplish our career goals. As an illustration,
in Distinction through Discovery, Buller implies that “the hardest decisions we have to make aren’t between right and wrong. They involve finding the best option among many right options or the lesser evil among many problematic options” (Buller 2013, 277). This quote demonstrates that one should think thoroughly before making a decision. Before you make a decision, you need to think about the worst possible outcome that could occur and how it would affect you. You also need to outweigh your pros and cons before you come to a decision. A tool that is helpful in making a decision would be the Harvard Business Review on Decision Making, which is recommended by management consultant Peter Drucker (Buller 2013, 281). The Harvard Business Review on Decision Making, is a tool that is used to help an individual to classify his or her problems by following six steps. In the end, this tool would will an individual to test the validity and effectiveness of the decision against one’s actual course of events.
