Dramaturgical Analysis-The Bachelor/Bachelorette Dramaturgical analysis was developed by Erving Goffman. Dramaturgical Analysis is defined as the study of social interaction in theatrical performances. Basically Dramaturgical Analysis boils down to how people’s actions, and even thoughts, change when they are worrying about people watching and judging them. The Bachelor and Bachelorette is a popular television show about a single woman/man that is looking for love. The bachelor/bachelorette then has multiple candidates to choose for a husband/wife. To many cultures, this practice is extremely bizarre. A game show that will determine who you love and want to spend the rest of your life with is not a normal custom for any culture. Dramaturgical Analysis is something that can explain some of the reasons the marriages that are a result of this reality show doesn’t work out. When someone that is dating with the world watching them they will, of course, act differently than they normally would. Also affecting the way they date would be the fact that they are in a competition with fifteen or more people. Dating is not usually accustomed to be a competition-styled affair. The women and men trying to win over the bachelor/bachelorette perform and change their opinions to fit whatever they think will give them the results that they seek. More importantly, the participants on the show consider what the audience of the show will think about them. It is not mainly about the one they are trying to win over because they have to also consider how something they say will affect the millions of viewers that are watching from home. Dramaturgical Analysis is not only something that makes an appearance in television shows, however, everyone changes the way that they act to fit a specific event or social group that they are around.
