Upon inspecting the title it suggests that Hughes is trying to communicate dance and music. In the third and fourth stanza they talk about that Hughes wishes to whirl his arms, to spin and to dance all day until the evening. The second stanza includes the same thematic. He wishes to dance until the dark comes. This poems theme is clearly the joy of dance and the pleasing sound of music that he can follow its rhythm. One of the many techniques Hughes uses is the consonance
of the words: “whirl, white and white.” Another technique used is repetition in words like: “whirl, whirl.” that by themselves are also onomatopoeic, which suggest rhythm and dance.
Langston Hughes fulfills his goal by leaving impressions of joy and pleasure behind. The overall tone or message left behind is the joyfulness in dance and the pleasure of rhythmic music.
