Dreaming of My Perfect Career As far back as I can remember I have enjoyed the sensation of decorating a dull room and making it magnificent by allowing myself to express my talents of interior designing. The sensation of adding colors and textures to a room to bring it to life is extremely comforting to me. I have always been told that I have a unique talent when decorating a room, rearranging furniture, and adding memorable touches to a person’s home or office setting. I too believe that I have the talent it takes to become a very successful and noted interior designer. Not many people can walk into a room that has no direction, no color theme, no excitement, and envision the room coming to life. The kind of life filled with multi-colored pallet schemes, contemporary furniture, enlightened pictures, modernized tastes, and the feeling of never wanting to leave the room because it is so inviting. Interior Designing is a profession in which I always wanted to see myself fully pursue. It is captivating how I have pursued my dream career of becoming an interior designers living right here in Tucson, Arizona. I want to consider myself a diamond in the rough; someone who does not allow society’s issues or downfalls to overcome them when times are tough. Acquiring a job as an interior designer would allow me the opportunity to express my talent and leave my mark behind for others to enjoy. I cannot imagine that it is a simple task becoming a known interior designer in Arizona. With the construction industry becoming almost nonexistent in Tucson alone, interior designers may not have the job opportunities that they had five or six years ago. There are several factors to consider before becoming an interior designer. College education and training programs are very important when deciding to take on the role of an interior designer (Bureau of Labor Statistics [B.L.S.], 2009,

Born in Fayette, Alabama, Charly “Carlos” Palmer (1960-) has lived life as both a commercial artist and a fine artist. Palmer was raised primarily in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Whereupon after graduating from high school in 1978 he moved to Chicago, Illinois to pursue a degree at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Palmer attended school there for a year and a half before transferring to the Art institute of Chicago. In 1982 he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and minor in Art History. Right after graduation Palmer began working professionally as an artist and more specifically as a graphic artist for agencies in Milwaukee, Chicago and Atlanta, Georgia. In partnership with his then wife, Charly Palmer opened a graphics design business, TP Design, in 1991. The business took off quickly and successfully. “We were recognized within the first 2 years as one of the top design agencies nationally and as one of the few all black agencies around in graphic designs in the country” states Palmer (personal communication, December 7, 2011). I asked Palmer, “What inspired you to switch your focus from being a professional designer to a full time painter?” Despite the success of the business Palmer explains, “I never had a desire to do commercial work.” His first passion, painting, is something that has never left him and he decided to solely focus on this aspect of his career within the last 10 years.…

Throughout the course of my junior year, I have been challenged to be the best artist of my ability. As a graphic designer, I have learned to view things in a different light and learned to express my creativity. Although I am still learning new things everyday about how to become a better artist, I have improved tremendously in every way ranging from the thought process all the way to finalizing each project, and I think that as the days go by I will continue to do well in my high school graphic design career, but in continuing my education in this major and working in a field closely related to it. I have produced at least 5 projects that reflect my passion for graphic design including the New York World’s Fair, currency recreation, and the handmade film poster from the first semester of my junior year and from the second half up until my most recent project, a book jacket, and an organic drink package design.…

“An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one.” This was once said by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley. That may be true, but what does it take to become one? How do artists find their passion? Elizabeth McKemy is currently a skilled art teacher at the Wilson High School. Art is not only her career, but it’s her passion, too. This has not always been her path, though. Like many people, McKemy at, one point, did not know what she wanted to do with her life.…

As a first-generation Latina, I will be the first individual in my family to obtain a college degree. I am seeking a degree in fashion design, and I believe that I have everything favorable for becoming an expert fashion designer. Throughout my high school experience, I have realized that I am immensely adept at drawing and creating various kinds of design, ranging from clothing to ceramics. Without the rigorous training from AP classes, regular art classes, and the support and motivation of my family, I would not have been able to discover my potential and passion for art. I would never have envisioned what my hands were capable of creating. I am very enthusiastic to know what I want out of my life and my future career; I am focused, driven, and proud of my decisions.…

As a registered nurse, I have been tasked with providing care to patients suffering from various medical conditions, but now I am ready to provide a different type of care in the form of beauty and art. Despite finding my current profession immensely gratifying, I always knew my true passion was in interior designing and decorating; hence why I have made the ambitious decision to go back to school for a new career in interior design. I have always enjoyed working with colors, patterns, and personalizing my home with DIY projects, such as remodeling a storage room into a guest bedroom and tearing down a wall to create a larger living room. I find myself constantly glued to home improvement shows and going through home magazines to find new ways of decorating,…

Due to my past experiences, I am convinced that further education in art will help me to grow into a creative just as responsible and hard-working individual. Although I am happy about what I have accomplished up to now, I yet have to challenge myself in order to exceed the quality of my previous work. I love creating and designing, permanently seeking to learn more. I am eager to work in an environment that encourages artistic and personal growth and teamwork with other passionate, hard-working and creative individuals as I did in the past. This proved to be inspiring, motivating and promoting at the same time. Over the last few years I was fortunate to be in such a place and to have a family that supports me following my dreams.…
