Dress Code Speech
We all know the dress code well to much, preventing us from wearing what we want and not letting our real style shine through. Here at Kaneland there are dress codes that I believe are not needed. For one girl’s shoulders are supposed to not be shown but why is there such a huge deal about them. Is there something about shoulders that make them so bad that you can’t show them. In the hallways of Kaneland High School there are girls who are wearing an item of clothing or not enough clothing that goes against the code and they are told to change. How are you supposed to change if you have no clothes and the school clothes available are embarrassing because they never fit and you can tell that the student got in trouble for the clothing choices they made that morning. …show more content…
Now that doesn’t mean if the dress is shorter than your knee because cute clothes that are long are hard to find nowaday. To go along with that would be short shorts, if your arms are longer than your shorts I don’t see a probable with that as long as you don’t have anything sticking/coming out of them. With colder weather coming there are not a lot of problems with the dress code but when it starts to get warmer and girls want to pull out their shorts and tank tops because of how hot it is but if students do that it will be dress coded. The main reason for girls dress code rules is because of the guys not being able to control themselves but they will have to learn to in the real world even if their not matured all the way. Placing these rules so the guys can’t do anything is not preventing anything it is just covering it up well at school. The main issue is not letting the students express their feelings through their choices in clothing. This is highschool this is time for the students to be able to express themselves and try different styles without having to worry about being

The first reason the dress code is is bad is because the rules are ridiculous. The school system makes horrible rules for students, like girls not being able to show their shoulders. There is nothing wrong with a shoulder as long as the shirt does not go down too far to show anything, also not being able to show their bra strap. Everyone knows that most girls in high school wear bras. People make a big deal about girls wearing “spaghetti straps” because it is too revealing to the girl's shoulders. In the spring…

The purpose of the dress code is to have a better understanding that students do not come here to show off their style, but to come here to learn and get a better education. Students fail to realize the difference between dressing for success and dressing to impress. Dress code is nothing new to our society; many jobs require you to wear certain types of clothing or a uniform. Therefore, these schools are simply preparing their students to have a successful and bright future. Students should be more concerned about what they can learn, not what they can or cannot wear. Education is what motivates student’s people to the top of the platform their wardrobe. “Be careless in your dress if you will, but keep a tidy soul (Twain)”. Students should beware, their future will not depend on…

According to school boards majority of girls are all indecent, this creates girls to be allowed to only wear a few items of clothing without breaking the sacred dress code law. There are very specific rules about what us girls can and cannot wear. “Skirts, dresses and shorts cannot be more than 2 inches above the knee”, which means we are allowed to wear only long shorts. Sounds like an oxymoron if you ask me, because wouldn’t long shorts be pants? “All pants and shorts must be worn on the waist.” So this obviously means those who choose to wear their pants about their waist would be punished. “All tops should cover the top of shoulders and cover the entire body.” I don’t know what our school would do without the “shoulder showing” dress code rule, because honestly shoulder showing could really get crazy. I mean, us kids get so turned on by shoulders. “I am overwhelmed with lust every time a bare shoulder is in my presence. It’s a good thing we aren’t allowed to show our bare shoulders”, says a fellow Chiawana High School student. Who knows what would happen if we all walked around with bare shoulders all day. Also, since when does a shirt cover your entire body? I have never seen a head to toe shirt, unless you include ghost Halloween costumes made from cheap sheets. If this is the case then I’ve been violating the dress code for over 3 years, wearing shirts that only cover my torso, without even knowing it. How silly of me!…

Have you ever been sent home from school because of what you were wearing? Maybe you should have been sent home, but you did not get caught? I am writing this paper because high school students across the country. and some parts of the world. get sent home and miss out on education simply because you could see their shoulders. (Buzzfeed) At Haven we have it pretty easy. In other areas it may be more difficult to find a cute outfit to wear. Some may even struggle to find something cute to put with or on their uniform that will not get them in any kind of trouble. School dress codes around the country. and some parts of the world, should be less severe. should not prevent individuality, and should not be difficult to follow.…

I strongly disagree with the fact of the shorts dress code rule being 6 inches or mid-thigh because if your shorts are 6 inches and not mid-thigh you can be dress coded; also if you shorts are mid-thigh and not 6 inches you can again be dress coded. I believe it is unfair because it gets to the point of you not knowing if the shorts are in dress code that you have to wear jeans all year even when its 100 degrees out side. It is also very inconsistent with people getting dress coded and people getting warnings and not being sent in to be dress coded. I personally agree that students should not be wearing booty shorts to school because it is very inappropriate and not expectable, but I do not agree with the fact that some people get dress coded due to the fact that their teacher or a staff member is in a bad mood on day and the next time they wear the same shorts they don’t! In a way the issue can not be fixed but it can be discussed and more consistent. The fact that it can be one 6 inches or the other mid-thigh is logically not fair due to the fact that you do not know what one it has to be. Also you can only be dress coded a certain amount of times until there is extreme consequences. So you do not want to risk the fact of wearing shorts that you don’t know will be in dress code or will not be, and you just wear jeans even though it is extremely hot out side and you risk having a heat stroke. Therefore those are some reasons why the dress code rule for shorts which is 6 inches or mid-thigh is unfair and should be discussed. Even if the rule can not be entirely fixed whether you get dress coded or not, the fact of having the term “6 inches or mid-thigh” should be fixed so girls will know what they can go out and look for to wear to school because its not fair to go out and buy new shorts for school, then you figure out that they are out of dress code because they are not either 6…

Yet again, these boundaries on what to wear are technically violating the first amendment because it is limiting freedom of speech very predominately. The matter is a very slippery slope, what to allow and what not to allow. Additionally, the rules are easily interpreted as sexist, shaming girls for wearing what needs to be worn. _____. A lot of the time, school workers blame a female student’s clothing as the reason why boys are being distracted from their learning. They are taking a student out of learning so that a male student can focus better. “Your self-control is not my problem,” some would say.…

All throughout my schooling, I was plagued by a dress code. It felt as if I could not wear anything that I wanted. It seemed like I always was told “Your shorts are too short” or “You aren’t supposed to wear legging without a long shirt” or my personal favorite from teachers was “Your spaghetti straps are inappropriate”. The dress code really used to piss me off for many reasons. For one, I always felt like dress codes were used as a way to punish girls that were curvier than others. Then I felt like the dress code was stupid because it basically told females that we shouldn’t wear certain clothes because it would be distracting to the boys. I mean like what guy is really going to look at my shoulder and think “that’s one sexy shoulder right there”. Regardless of how I personally feel/felt about dress codes, I was set with the task of creating the ideal…

Dress codes are rules that the country has utilized for years. But are these rules necessary? They often suppress students’ individuality as well as students’ self-expression. At the same time these rules also discriminate and needlessly sexualize young women. Dress codes were put in place to establish a distraction-free environment for students. And yet, they are doing the opposite, and thus, modifying or eliminating them would be most logical.…

The Piedmont Middle School dress code has become a very controversial topic for both the students and faculty. The dress code states that shorts/skirts must be past the fingertips, and shirt sleeves must be at least three fingers in width. While I can see why this code is enforced, it is unfair for many students, and can interfere with student expression, different body types, and the student’s education.…
