Summary

The only thing constant in Texas is the people’s love for Texas-style barbecue. There are more than a thousand BBQ establishments in the Houston area alone. Some of these are large chain restaurants competing with small neighborhood businesses.

Drexler’s World famous Bar-B-Que is located in an area of Houston called the Third Ward-an economically disadvantaged neighborhood not far from downtown. It has been in the area since the late 1940s. It was a small establishment around 1500 sq feet but relocated to a 13,000 square foot located in 2003. It features traditional fare and healthier menu items.

Drexler’s continues to be a family business with strong underlying values. It is in the neighborhood and is of the neighborhood.

Drexler won an Olympic gold medal in 1992 and an NBA championship in 1995 with the Houston Rockets. Since his retirement, he has been more involved in the daily operations of the restaurant.

Sociotechnical systems theory was created by researchers in human relations in the early 1950s. They found the two were important and needed for the effectiveness of businesses could reach higher potential when they focused on having the internal workplace and the external of the business (the customers) all uniform. Sociotechnical systems theory is when organizations are effective. This is broken down into two parts: social and technical. The employees make sure they follow orders correctly are the social part. The technical part is having right training knowledge and tools so the business can be productive and effective in making sure the customers are happy and return consistently. One would think that all the hype DC’s Sports bar of Eunice, Louisiana gets that it would be a great restaurant and have a great environment. The owner is Darrin Cobb and his restaurant is run by two of his daughters, Ashley and Brittany Cobb. DC’s serves food from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm and serves alcoholic beverages until 2:00 am. My experience proved the hype about this sports bar wrong. All though the food is exceptional, the environment and service was not.…
