Module 3: Natural Forces Affecting the Driver
1. Gravity- Attraction of earth or object on its surface, force that pulls all things to earth.
2. Inertia- Any matter to resist if object is at rest.
3. Potential Energy- Stored energy.
4. Kinetic Energy- Energy of Motion
5. Friction- Keeps you from sliding off during turn. Resistance. Enables brakes to work. Force that creates heat and helps each tire maintain traction on the road.
6. Traction- Friction between tire and road.
7. Centrifugal Force- The force that pulls out from the center on a body in circular motion.
8. Centripetal Force- The force responsible for the change in direction.
9. Deceleration- Area where speed can be reduced to exist safely. Expressway lane used to slow your vehicle without blocking vehicles behind you.
10. Force of impact- Force with which one moving object hits another object; varies according to speed, weight, and distance between impact and stop and is based on forces of inertia and momentum.
Module 4: Signs, Signals & Pavement Markings
1A. The difference between solid and broken lines is, a broken line consists of dashes, and it indicates that passing is permitted in that stretch of road. A solid line remains unbroken, and indicates that passing is not permitted.
2. The yellow broken line indicates that you can see far enough ahead to check for oncoming traffic to safely pass a slower vehicle in front of you. The side of the road with the solid yellow line facing it, is no-passing zone, while the opposite side of the road, with the intermittent line facing it, passing is permitted.
3. Broken white lines separate traffic lanes on roads with two or more lanes in the same direction.
