As one of its goals, Huffman Trucking would like to be the industry leader in using its technology to the maximum efficiencies when providing their customer service and doing their day to day business. They are the first major freight carrier to outsource its information systems support. Their Finance and Accounting System applications are supported by Smith Systems Consulting and are integrated with the Flight Maintenance System and the Enterprise Transportation Application. These systems are tailored to capture the financial and accounting data and information related to the trucking business. Their system also allows them to maintain their customer data along with their historical sales. Marketing is able to make their plans and budgets electronically available to their management and present them as needed at sale meetings. The Sales Department has established a detailed database of its customers that can be shared with other team members. The Human Resource Department uses an HRIS system that was developed by in-house programmers that tracks employees operationally and financially. Smith Consulting has developed a system for Huffman Trucking and recommends that they convert over in order to further standardize their system.…

Driver distraction can be defined as a diversion of the mental attention away from activities or skills needed for safe driving and completion of the activity. A distraction is a fact of having a person’s concentration disturbed by any external or internal stimuli. (Regan, 2007) When drivers are distracted, their attention is divided between the “primary tasks” of driving and “secondary non-driving tasks” such as conversation, radio listening, and technology use. These external stimuli causes the driver’s cognitive skills to be used to analyse both the road situation and the secondary task, resulting to the impairment of the driver’s situational consciousness, decision-making skills and driving performance. Driver distractions…

In life, there are many different cultures, races, genders and beliefs. But as humans, we have the rights to choose as we please. Just as in “The Fender Bender” where an illegal immigrant hits an American citizen’s van. The Hispanic man automatically starts panicking because he knows the cops are on the way to the scene. This story relates to a personal situation of mine when I backed into a brand new BMW owned by an Africa American woman in a Walmart parking lot. While both in the story and in my life, many emotions came upon the situation like panic, sympathy, and relief.…
Fatigue driving is a dangerous type of driving with distractions. While things might not seem as a distracter while driving, they may in fact be the very thing that kills you or leaves you paralyzed for the rest of your life; even something as simple as a handheld cell phone. As we entered into a century of cars and driving, many states have made the most optimal decision to make it illegal to drive while using a cell phone. Its a logical and beneficial choice because it not only saves lives and resources, it reduces the amount of fatigue driving while continuously eliminating the possible dangers of driving while distracted. We are the most intelligent and talented animals; doing many things at once is common. It helps any person…

When people work from home, they effectively eliminate travel time. This increases productivity and reduces the loss precious of man-hours in having to put up with congestion. Exponential rise in global population as well as an increased rate of migration to cities has resulted in overcrowding in many metropolitan cities such as Hong Kong and New York, leading to high traffic congestion during peak hours. Statistics tell us that the annual delay per peak period traveller has grown from 16 hours to 47 hours since 1982. Working…
