Dropping The Atomic Bomb

This investigation will explore the question: To what extent was President Truman’s decision to the drop atomic bomb to save lives and hasten the end of World War Two? The pressures and outcomes of dropping the explosive on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, will be the focus of this investigation. The first source is Thomas Holmes article, “The Dropping of the Atomic Bombs on Japan”, published in 2005 in the United States. The origin is valuable because Holmes is an American historian and social studies professor which qualifies him to cover this topic.The publication date increases the value of this text because it shows how the author was able to benefit from highsight and use it to guide his beliefs and understanding of this topic. He came up with theories that were proved by exploring both views on dropping the atomic bomb. The content includes separate sections for the advocates and critics for using the weapon. This is limited because it only has his perspective and thoughts which creates bias. The purpose of this text was to revise the previous interpretations of the use of the atomic bomb.
