Topic: Drunk Driving
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to stop driving while they are drunk if they do so.
Thesis Statement: There are more and more accidents happening as a result of drunk driving, and these drunk drivers should be severely punished.
I. Introduction: Attention Step
A. Attention Material: My friend Susan’s son a nine-year-old boy named Tom and his father were on their way back from a gathering at their friend’s house. As they crossed the street, Susan noticed a small white car driving very quickly towards them. The car lights were turned off, so they didn’t notice the car until it got really close to them. They tried to run as quickly as they could, but the car was much faster than them. Susan and her husband managed to get off the street, and as they looked back, they saw the car driving over their son. Tom was taken to the hospital, and unfortunately he is permanently paralyzed. All this was the result of drunk driving.
B. Persuasion: Imagine this happening to someone you know and love, how would you feel?
C. Credibility: My name is Alhanouf Mohammed and I have been doing research about the dangers of drunk driving and how it is affecting not only the driver, but also the community.
D. Preview: Drunk drivers should be punished severely and as harshly as possible, because they are destroying people’s lives.
Transition: I’ll begin by telling you about the dangers of drunk driving.
II. Body: Need Step
A. 1.a. Drunk driving is taking away people’s lives. If drunk drivers were punished the right way, they wouldn’t drive while they’re drunk and so fewer accidents would happen. When drivers are drunk they have less control over their mental ability and they aren’t stable. According to “ The Effects of Alcohol on Driving”, alcohol reduces your ability to drive safely because it affects most areas of your brain. (This happens because…) This causes them to loose control easily
