It is imperative for all mental disorders to have a specific method of classification. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is a manual designed to help professionals comprehensively understand mental illness and treatment for each diagnosis (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The primary use of the DSM-5 is to assist professionals in diagnosis for each specific patient, which prompts an effective treatment plan (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 19). About 2.4% of United States citizens are diagnosed with body dysmorphic disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 244). Body Dysmorphic disorder is prevalent amongst both men and women and usually begins to manifest around childhood or adolescent ages (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 244). People with body dysmorphic disorder obsess over their flaws for countless hours and individuals find it difficult to control their thoughts (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 243). These individuals may tan, skin pick, or even compare for hours due to their preoccupations (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 243). High rates of neglect and abuse during childhood tend to put a child at risk for body dysmorphic disorder, along with, a diagnosis of OCD in first lien blood relatives (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 245). A paraphalic disorder is a praphalia that causes an individual to become distressed or a paraphalia that puts the individual at harm, or risk of harm, to others (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 685-686). The first group of paraphalia deviates from what is normal, or anomalous activity preference (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 685). This group is then subdivided into courtship disorders, which favor distorted courtship between humans, and algolagnic disorders, which involve suffering (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 685). While the second group is occupies anomalous target preferences, where one group is directed toward other humans, and the other group is directed elsewhere (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 685). In some cases there may be two paraphalia present (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 686). Some paraphalia includes a persons erotic activities, while some paraphalia concerns a persons erotic target (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, 685).
