Introduction
The NE555 chip which operates at 5v, utilizes two comparators for temperature stability. This chip is capable of producing oscillations. It is made up of 8 pins and its oscillation mode is controlled by two resistors and a capacitor. Each pin is set to perform a function. Pin 1 serves as ground. Pin
2 is the trigger - the input to the lower comparator which sets the latch that causes output to go high.
Pin 3 serves as the output. Pin 4 is the reset - resets the latch and returns output to low regardless of the state of the other inputs.
Pin 5 is control, serving as the reference for pin #6.
Pin 6 is the threshold - input to the upper comparator. if 2/3V+ pin 5 is applied, output (pin 3) goes low.
Pin 7 is the discharge – connected to ground with its low resistance to ground, when output is low and off or high resistance to ground, when input is high
Pin 8 Is connected to the power source of 5V
Along with the chip, a capacitor was used for this experiment. A capacitor works by storing energy in its two terminals, which are separator by an insulator. A positive charge is collected on one plate, while a negative charge is collected on the other plate. Capacitor unit of measurement is Farads.
In this experiment we also used two resistors. Resistors are used to reduce the voltage applied to a circuit. How much resistance is applied is determined by the color bands printed on the resistor, as each color signifies a different number that can give us the information to figure out how much resistance we are
