Duncan The Horse Analysis
“Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride, Friendship without envy, Or beauty without vanity? Here, where grace is served with muscle. And strength by gentleness confined. He serves without servility; he has fought without enmity. There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent. There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.” Writer, poet and playwright, Ronald Duncan penned these lines in his poem “The Horse”. These excellent words bring into perspective exactly how I feel about horses; in fact, my best friend might be a short, ornery, little blue roan named Cinder. Cinder and I have had the privilege to go horse camping with an incredible group of people with whom my parents are members. Such occasions I will not …show more content…
It only takes a few seconds to realize this is not a normal day. The smells of eggs and sausage wafts its way to me as I roll out of bed; but, before I am able to eat, the horses must be taken care of; for example, cleaning up what they have left for me over night and getting them water and grain. After breakfast, it is time to saddle up. First the horse must be brushed and then the saddle blanket goes on, closely followed by the saddle and bridle. Finally, up I go and as I settle into the rich smelling leather saddle, I can hear the birds singing, and I realize how blessed I am to be outside on this magnificent …show more content…
Hot dogs and brats are soon sending their aroma into the evening air. The crackling fire seems as if it is dancing to music as the flames lick up toward the mouthwatering meat. It is not long before everyone has their food on their plates; plenty of food has been brought and is shared by all. Darkness has finally stolen its way across the sky as everyone pulls their chairs in closer to the campfire. The cool pleasantness of the night surrounds us while the flames cast a warmth that reaches deep into our souls. The sound of crickets chirping sets the ambiance to the chatter and occasional laugh that goes around our little circle of chairs surrounding the glowing

Ordinarily, the sun’s light captured everything in sight like a mother hugging a child and giving it warmth. From the dark oak bed, I rose because of the unpleasant bites of mosquitoes. The Civil War is always on my mind. After a most successful battle yesterday when our soldiers all left home, relief and happiness came to mind, for there was a chance that we would win. Consequently, that would explain the surge of energy running through my body after waking up. Starting off with breakfast, I walked to my kitchen, the wood underneath my feet start to creak. The closer I walked to the kitchen, the warmer and cozier the atmosphere became. My servant, Julia, prepared breakfast for me today similar to many other days, I always wonder what will breakfast will be. Fresh eggs from my brown feathered hens were soft surrounded by creamy goat cheese, and well-cooked toast was on the plate this morning. Enjoying the meal is a morning ritual,…

The story “Horses of the Night” centers the theme of depression. The story is told from Vanessa’s point of view, a 6 year old girl, who idolizes her cousin Chris, a teenager who comes to live with them to complete his high school. Vanessa grows closer to Chris during his stay. He would talk to her about his life goals or occasionally also talk about his “beautiful” hometown. She describes Chris as a handsome boy who is very creative, entertaining and a dreamer. She admired the little things about him, how he overlooked negative comments instead of talking back, how he would easily mix up with children etc. He seemed to have everything figured out and he made it look so simple. As Vanessa grew up she started to understand the realities of…

Beginning the plot, fire always ascribed itself an image of both physical assistance and mental aid. The blazing campfires the dramatic duo of the boy and his father create offer warmth and an atmosphere of a sanguine tone, and is essentially what endorses the positivity in the characters. Almost the entirety of the plot affords optimistic association to fire, as in order to persevere and endure, the duo…

In the wee hours of the morning my life is the embodiment of a living, breathing dichotomy. Awakening with a wry little smile on my face, I knew I had dreamed of the river, big brown trout, and sweet 3wt bamboo rods. My body screams – “Where’s the coffee”, while my brain questions the sanity of getting up this early on a Saturday. Oblivious to the cacophony, the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. Betraying logic, they forewarn that this pre-dawn moment was the premonition of a great day ahead.…

I awoke to the sounds of birds singing, and the light shining through the window of my bedroom. I opened my eyes and stretched my pale arms towards the ceiling. I hummed to the tune of one of the many songs I had heard on the radio as I made myself a bowl of Frosted Flakes.…
