Dunlap Forest Observation
A table of ten “coordinates pairs” was created by matching a number randomly generated between one and fifty (the X value) with a number randomly generated between one and ten (the Y value). In Dunlap forest, a spot on the trail was chosen, and a stake was put down. Using a tape measure, we walked a number of meters into the forest that corresponded to the randomly generated X number, where another stake was put down. Using another tape measure, we walked a number of meters left that corresponded to the randomly generated Y number. A stake was put down, and that location was dubbed the sampling point. The area around the sampling point was divided into four quadrants, and the overstory tree closest to the sampling point in each quadrant was

Random Sampling, a method often used by ecologist involves an unpredictable component. In this method, all members of the population have an equal chance of being selected as part of the sample. The results involving random sampling can be categorized as descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (Montague 2009).Descriptive statistics includes simplified calculations of a given sample and arrange this information into charts and graphs that are easy to contrast. Trying to reach conclusions that extend beyond the immediate data alone describes inferential statistics. To document the results of sampling, qualitative and quantitative data is used. Quantitative data lack is measured and identified on a numerical scale, whereas Qualitative data approximates data but does not measure characteristics,…

The society is one that is preserved by fear and loss of identity. One of the ways we have figured that out is the Uncharted Forest. In the book, it says ““ (Rand, ). This means that the society in which equality lived in was afraid of The Uncharted Forest. However, equality was not, after being rejected with his idea of electricity, he decided to run into The Uncharted Forest, where he thought he would die in the first night. This shows that the society is preserved by fear.…

On 4th October 2001, I went on geography field trip to Ashdown Forest. We got out of the coach and started to walk towards the river source. Unfortunately due to the lack of weather there wasn’t any water. It was dry rather than muddy. We took some notes of landscape then we started walk towards the waterfall which was also dry. We could see where the drop was and where the hard rock eroded away soft rock. We took some measurement of the fall (width and depth). Secondly we walked toward the V-shaped valley and river. We drew the landscape of v-shaped valley and jot some notes down as well. But the river wasn’t fill up with water so there wasn’t any flow. So we took some measurements in our mini group. We measured river course section, speed and depth of water. Lastly we started to walk our way back to coach. On the way back we stopped at Arman’s Grave where 6 people died in plane crash in World War 2. We took some note on that and came back to coach. After that we had lunch and come back to school. In this project I am to explain some features of Ashdown Forest that I found out when I was on the trip.…

When we entered forest A, I looked around me and noticed a lot of familiar trees. Many of the leaves were wide and had points. When our group was finished in forest A, we had a total of fifty one maple trees. We went onto forest B and finished our measurements we had a total of forty-eight maple trees. Our next hypothesis was that the pond forest would be the older forest out of the two. When we first got to forest B, we noticed that the pond had a significantly larger amount of lower level vegetation. We figured the reasoning for this was because forest B received more sunlight to the forest floor. We also noticed that there were less dead trees and the live trees seemed to be smaller in circumference. The only problem was that the pond forest seemed to be less bothered than the one behind the elementary school. I didn’t make much sense of this. I figured if the forest was farther away, which it was indeed, it would be less disturbed and contain bigger trees. Therefore, I was a tad confused. Although, it did make sense to me that by receiving more sunlight, the forest would have more lower level…

A physical measurement would create samples of timber population by individually measuring the desired population. Similarly they would also be divided into quadrants of desired size and measured accordingly. The data gathered from these measurements is then manipulated to achieve estimation of total population coverage. A diameter of each tree is found indirectly by measuring circumference at breast height. This methods advantage is a more accurate measurement of basal area, since individual trees get measurements. Although this advantage comes as a cost of time, much more time consuming than using an estimation method such as the timber cruise.…
