There are vast differences in the health of minority populations in comparison to non-minority populations. These variations in health consist of external and internal elements, such as access to health education and care, stigmas associated with health treatment, and lack of culturally diverse health leaders. Deviations between the quality of health of minority populations is detrimental to the productivity of society. Minority health disparities have caused significant economic losses and have dampened the productivity of minority populations.

It was founded in fall 2016 with the goal of tackling minority health disparities and promoting overall wellness within minority populations, specifically minority women. Data supports the existence of a broad range of chronic diseases negatively influencing the health of minority women, both locally and nationally. Sistas on the Move hopes to increase the health of all minorities, by providing women with information to promote wellness in the essential roles they will undertake as members of the African-American community. Sistas on the move follows the model of promoting holistic wellness. The eight dimensions of wellness; physical, mental, intellectual, financial, spiritual, environmental, social, mental and occupational, serve as the foundation for all organizational events. Sistas on the Move is based upon the following principles; Health, Sisterhood, and Service. As an organization, we hope to serve a vast amount of populations through giving them the tools and support systems needed to live healthier lives, and collectively tactic aspects of systemic health
