EHR Personal Statement
The HITECH ACT and subsequent adoption of EHRs and other HIT systems has resulted in an increased demand for individuals to develop, implement, and support these systems. This has provided career opportunities for individuals with IT and clinical backgrounds to expand their expertise and change career paths. There are several options that individuals have for career development in HI, such as formal education ranging from certification programs to master’s programs, as well as professional organizations that provide members with publications and access to webinars that discuss emerging trends and subjects within the career field. Additionally, HIMSS offers a certification program where individuals can become a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information & Management Systems (HIMSS, 2015).
My current strategy is completion of the UIC master’s program in Healthcare Informatics (HI), which is providing me with a comprehensive study of major …show more content…
This has included managing teams where I determined and utilized the skills and knowledge of team members to successfully evaluate and implement the intended systems. This has influenced me to pursue management in order to play an active role in these decisions and influence the direction of the organization. Within the Clinical Decision Support department, I’ve been involved in projects that have utilized clinical data from the EHR or Care Management applications and the impact that data can have in developing quality improvement plans. I’ve also gained experience with system administration, troubleshooting technical issues, and providing end user support, indicating a knowledge of clinical workflows and IT processes. These and many qualifications that I possess are outlined by HIMSS (2013) as those required to be a Director of Clinical Information
