Earl grew up in the area of Los Angeles and graduated high school from New Roads High School in Santa Monica. In 2009, Tyler, the Creator discovered Earl Sweatshirt who was known as Sly Tendencies through his MySpace account. In his MySpace account was where Earl Sweatshirt (Sly Tendencies) recorded some tracks for his Kitchen Cutlery mixtape. Even though the mixtape was never finished or released, Earl eventually joined Tyler 's rap group Odd Future. Earl and his new rap group Odd Future have been featured in mainstream magazines such as Spin, Billboard, and the Fader. They have also been on the front cover of all these magazines. His debut studio album, Earl, was self-released on March 31st, 2010 as a free digital album on the Odd Future website. Most of the album was produced by Tyler, the Creator, one song by Odd Future member Left Brain, and another song produced by BeatBoy. Earl was named 24th best album of 2010 by Complex. Soon after Earl was released, many posts of Tyler, the Creator social accounts on the internet were saying that Earl Sweatshirt was going to stop making music with Odd Future. Many social media and fans thought that Tyler 's post on the internet were indicating that Earl 's mother would not grant him permission to release any of Earl 's music. This was dreadfully incorrect and false information. Earl 's mother sent Earl to Samoa in June of 2010 because he was getting into serious trouble with himself. That is why Tyler was saying that Earl wasn 't going to make music anymore
