Early Childhood Education Observation

The second half of my observation time was spent in a 4th grade classroom at Carver Elementary School in the Neosho R-5 school district. I was a bit leery when I first learned that I would be observing this age group, but it proved to be a wonderful, educational, and inspiring experience. From beginning to end, my time spent at Carver was nothing short of delightful. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, I learned many applicable lessons that I will be able to utilize in my own career as an educator. Unlike my experience with the High School in Neosho, I was quite impressed with the structure and overall management at Carver Elementary. If I needed assistance, there was always somebody there to help, and everyone seemed delighted to be a part of the school. Granted, the nature of an elementary school does require there to be a fair amount of structure, but I was given the impression that the folks at this particular school would go above and beyond to ensure the safety and quality of education for the children. As a matter of fact, as a parent of a child who will be attending this school, it was a relief to see the school staffed with such passionate and caring administration and educators. I can, however, provide some limited insight regarding the demographic structure of this specific 4th grade class. As would be expected in this area, other than two young ladies that were black, the majority of the students in this class were Caucasian. Based on appearances alone, there seemed to be some slight variations in socioeconomic status, but not enough to make much of a difference in the class. Actually, the only noticeable discrepancy in the class was gender. In a class of 37 total students, 20 were girls and 17 were
