This article that I chose focuses on the early childhood victimization and adult maltreatment rates between different sexual orientations. The study start off by recruiting participants from online that vary in sexual orientations. The sexual orientations include heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and mostly heterosexual. Shortly after the participants were gathered they were given a survey. On that survey, they were asked about their adverse childhood upbringings and maltreatment by adults, as well as victimization from peers. They started the experiment by recruiting participants using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, which is a told that is often used for social science research. MTurk is simply a crowdsourcing tool that is composed of a lot of younger, more educated people from mostly the United States and India. In the postings that were made were calling for participants that wanted to participants and sexual minorities. After filtering out the participants based off gender and sexual identity, the number of participants was at 1,103. Then those participants were given questionnaires that asked about early childhood experiences that involved peer and childhood victimizations. To make sure that the survey was taken seriously, there were three attention checks throughout the survey.
