The first of the conspirators who falsified information and framed Edmond Dantes was Gaspard Caderousse. Dantes started his revenge by disguising himself as Abbe Busoni and payed a visit to Caderousse. During the visit, Dantes found out who was involved in, and who caused his misfortune. In return for the information, Abbe Busoni gave Caderousse a diamond worth fifty thousand franks. Abbe Busoni told Caderousse that originally the diamond was meant to be split equally between all of Edmond Dantes’ friends; but since Abbe Busoni realized that Caderousse was the only one who was Dantes’ friend, he told Caderousse to keep the diamond for himself. Edmond Dantes hoped that Caderousse would become an honest man, but his greed became too strong. Caderousse started to live a life of crime and greed. He murdered his wife and an appraiser on the same night just to keep the money and the diamond for himself. Later, after escaping prison, Caderousse black mails a man named Benedetto in order to receive a constant supply of money. Benedetto tells Caderousse of a way to get a large sum of money. He is told that he will be able to rob one of The Count
