In the text "Educating Rita" by Willy Russell, Frank is an alcoholic academic educator who has taken on the tutorship to pay for his drinks, and Rita, who is dissatisfied with her work and social life and seeks inner growth by signing up for an open university english course. Rita speaks in local dialect filled with slang and swearing which enables the responder to reflect her social and cultural background. By shortening and running some words together, Rita reveals her working class status such as "y' wanna be careful with that stuff, it kills y' brain cells." Her working class background is also reinforced by her use of facial expression as she uses the phrase "taking the piss" .
