To begin, society feels the need to be accepted and this is due to advertisements.
Before ads became essential for every marketing company, we were unaware of many things seen as “necessities” today. We were not materialistic and self conscious about our appearance as we are today. Although many people see dandruff associated with hygiene (Source D) , in past centuries dandruff was seen as completely normal and people would not criticize as we do now. In modern days we now see a television commercial on shampoo’s that promise people that their dandruff will disappear in a matter of 7 days. We now feel the need to be dandruff-free in order to look clean for everyone else and not be criticized. The same goes with women who change the concept of being beautiful. People might say a person who is beautiful is a person who has a face with no imperfections but in reality is the majority of people who don’t. We see on television models with “flawless” skin who advertise products that are guaranteed to cure acne. The reality of this is they don’t have a perfect skin either but the producers of those commercials Photoshop their faces to make us want the perfect skin we see on the model and therefore they manipulate us to buy their products in order to feel accepted by others and make ourselves “perfect”. What these advertisements do is lower our self-esteem to feel the need to be perfect and fall into this type of propaganda. Lastly, ads make us feel the need to buy a company’s products. Products are created to satisfy the public with what they “need” and therefore we go these products.
Unnecessary products that are unnatural and are replace by the original is what these type of propaganda does. We are constantly hearing and watching commercials about soft drinks (Source F) where we see our favorite artists drinking them and people go to buy them to imitate them, such as Pitbull advertising Dr.Pepper. We can drink water instead and we will be satisfied but we are slowly being conditioned to buy these type of products. Another example is “cigarette advertising” (Source B) where it talks how this is an enormous power and economic value of advertisement. People feel the need to buy a pack of cigarettes when they are at a party and are aware that smoking will bring harm in their lives. We are influenced to smoke to satisfy other people and this feeling to satisfy other later becomes and addiction that brings life threatening problems such as cancer. Lastly, the iPhone is becoming a popular cell phone around the world. The
Apple company creates a new version of these phone’s approximately every 6 months claiming to be better than the old one with more features such as mega pixels, more storage, wider screen etc. A person who recently bought an iPhone and hears that the market is realizing a new one feels the need to buy the newest version and they are releasing a new phone sooner and sooner every time with people feeling unsatisfied.
What these company is doing is creating a new phone with “cheaper” materials to they keep buying the new one at a more expensive price than the old one. We are being pressured to buy an expensive phone in such a short amount of time so the company becomes of more value when in reality is just manipulating its’ consumers.
Overall, the need to feel accepted by society and buy a company’s products is making our society ignorant by what we hear and see on ads who claim such items are necessary for our lives. People have to accept that advertisements are manipulating them and try to prevent it by analyzing what they say and how they say it and lastly our society is transforming into a new culture by these ads that we see for only 30 seconds.

In order to reach our main goal of prospering as a nation, we need to become more aware of the damage that has already been caused by this advertising and prevent it from negatively affecting us even further.…

While an inexpensive car with good gas mileage is a smarter and more economical choice. According to Sesana, from source F, “…marketing executives will use all available methods to convince us of the need to buy their company products.” Advertising companies fabricate a need for their unnecessary product. It is rare to see advertisements for staple food products or other items that truly satisfy our needs. Nancy Day from Source D argues, “Before advertising, who worried about dandruff?” which is a good example of what type of products turned into household items. Unless you're one of the blessed few, you usually see the imperfections. The tiniest details that no one else notices, but you blow it out of proportion. What do you see when you see me? Some say, "A good student - inquisitive, creative, opinionated, and happy." That's quite different from what I see. When I look in the mirror I see...pimples, blemishes, imperfections, pain, rejection, stress, confusion, and frustration. It's all from our idealist society; it's all from the media, the school, or even your next door neighbor. The environment we're in makes it hard to come to terms with the fact that, in truth, perfection will and can never be achieved. We all say, "Oh, no one is perfect," and "Looks aren't important," but do we really believe it? We all try to achieve this perfect ideal, the idea of perfection in our idealist society - a goal that is absolutely unattainable. Do yourself justice, but there comes a time when further improvement will not significantly improve your cause, and it would be better to move on rather than wasting your time trying to perfect one thing. We were created in God's image to be perfect, but after the fall of Adam, we are now born with a sinful nature and therefore unable to achieve this form of absolute perfection. The line needs to be drawn between perfection and agonizing; too often we struggle to be what we know that we…
