Effects of Identity Theft on Social Networking Sites
OBJECTIVES After reading the term paper, the reader would be able:
1. to define Identity Theft,
2. to discuss about Identity Theft in Social Networking Sites,
3. to suggest alternative solutions for Identity Theft Crisis,
4. to provide information that will help users of Social Networking Sites to prevent Identity Theft,
5. to request for rules and regulations in avoiding Identity Theft,
6. and to advance knowledge about issues on Identity Theft.
INTRODUCTION Identity Theft is the act of pretending with malicious intent to be another person in communication with a third person as said in the little green book on identity theft. The researcher finds that identity theft is collecting someone’s personal data –valuable data that can be used to steal your accounts. The respondents are currently studying as Bachelor of Science and Information Technology students in Polytechnic University of the Philippines Taguig campus and were chosen because the researcher believes that the respondents are approachable, knowledgeable and responsible enough to answer the questionnaire. The study was conducted in PUP-Taguig Campus because the respondents are located in this particular location. The researcher chose the year 2005-2012 because the time frame is very much innovative and most discoverable for the topic, Identity Theft. The study is conducted to provide information to the Users about the effects of identity theft in social networking sites either its advantages or disadvantages. Identity theft crimes aren’t as famous as murder crimes or bank hostages since it doesn’t usually seen on headlines but as it increases, the reputation of the country and the people around it decreases. This research is important because of the growing risks of Identity Theft, as the blog sites and social networking sites Users population increase, Identity theft crimes also increases. This may help the students to focus on their studies, knowing that they
