Dept.of Embedded Systems,Bits Pilani,,India pauljosearicatt@gmail.com Abstract— Traffic congestion is a major concern for many cities throughout the world. In many countries transport system basically works on the static scenario where there is a fixed duration for which the red and the green signals are allotted for each lane. This time duration remains the same throughout the entire day whether the roads are flooded with traffic or the lane is literally empty. There is no real time calculation. Because of this the traffic is not properly adjusted and handled on the roads. Developing a sophisticated traffic monitoring and control system would result in an effective solution to this problem. Through this report I present to you an Efficient Traffic Management System that aims at determining the density of traffic in each lane thereby allotting minimum time for the least density lane derived from case study done on the same. automatically in real-time. These applications work under the observation of National Highway Authorities. The goal will be a system for controlling and adjusting phase timings at all signalized intersections within a given geographical region with the purpose of allocating more green light time for roads with heavier traffic flows at the expense of less loaded roadways and, by doing so, to relieve the most jammed parts of the network at the expense of its less loaded parts. This is achieved by calculating traffic density on all road intersections, and then by adjusting phase timings to ease the most congested roadways .In the next chapters, we have described some previous traffic systems, techniques used to implement our idea, system overview, results, and conclusion.
