In his essay, “I Just Wanna Be Average,” author Mike Rose says, “students will float to the mark you set” (164). From my past experiences, I completely agree that students will work harder if their teachers set the standards high. Generally, teenagers do not have high goals or standards for themselves, so it is up to the teachers to encourage and push the students towards success. Throughout his excerpt, Rose shows through numerous examples that teachers are a vital part to a student’s success in life.…

In the article " Our Schools Must Do Better" by Bob Herbert basically telling readers our school system needs more improvements. Bob Herbert mentioned in the article "The first is teacher quality, a topic that gets talked about incessanlty." The first thing that came in my mind how teachers needs to also work hard with their students. All teachers from different levels of grades should b able to push their students to work harder. Some Schools has teachers who just let their students do what ever they want, and not even make to the next grade level. Bob Herbert also mentioned how " Studies have clearly shown that good teachers and the not-so-good ones can ususally be identified." Teachers should always want to show the parnets that thier children are in good hands. He basically wants to improve on the school environment.…

Educational research contributes many factors to effective teaching and the effective teacher. Beliefs and values that guide the research change by the decade, however, most of the research agrees that the highest impact on achievement is the teacher. The writer feels that the three factors Marzano pinpoints are ones truly necessary to guide effective teachers. He states “the act of teaching is a holistic endeavor. Effective teachers employ effective instructional strategies, classroom management techniques, and classroom curricular design in a fluent, seamless fashion”. (Marzano, p.77) By combining these three key components, the teacher will do what is necessary to foster student achievement.…

A student’s success is hard to define because every individual has different ideas of what is success. Students usually think of success as getting a passing grade, but the schools could define it as students getting a high GPA, and a good citizenship grade, along with a lot of other standards. But schooling, let alone education, shouldn’t be focused on grades. Rather, it should be based on the life lessons learned from the subjects taught. Life lessons could include study habits, confidence to participate, and being punctual to class or job meetings in the future. A student’s success also can’t be forced by any type of authority and should be approached from a less traditional angle. The students are primarily responsible for their success…

Ask any student in public high school what they like and dislike about school. Odds are, they will say that what they enjoy most about school is the social interactions it allows them to take part in, and what they dislike about school is the classes. John Taylor Gatto, in “Against School: How Public Education Cripples our Kids, and Why,” discusses the reasons for such boredom in an in depth manner. Most of the time, nowadays, it is not the amount of work that they have developed a disliking for, it is the time that being in class wastes. Sitting in a class doing busy work is not something that interests people. The problem with schooling in this day in age, is that many of the students attending public schools are not being challenged and brought to their full potential. Teachers get bored of teaching and students get bored of doing work that is not going to benefit them in any way after they graduate high school. John Taylor Gatto gives a brief summary of the history of schooling and a suggestion that, in order to better our children academically, teachers need to urge their students to take on the work that may seem more “grown up.”…

Teachers have a very important responsibility of shaping the lives of young, impressionable children. With this responsibility comes great pride and joy. Therefore, as a high school teacher I want to strive to be what can be considered as, a "good teacher." A good teacher can be defined as someone who always pushes students to want to do their best while at the same time trying to make learning interesting as well as creative. A positive or negative influence from a teacher early on in life can have a great effect on the life of a child. As part of my goal statement I plan to incorporate all of these qualities to become the teacher that I expect and want to be.…

Just yesterday I was reading an article “What Keeps Students Motivated to Learn?” by Katrina Shwartz. She talked about how teachers should give students projects they’re interested in. Gramann a student that Shwarts talked to stated “that if teachers give broad guidelines for projects and then have students do something they’re interested in it will bring students along the whole time.” I agree with with Gramann but at the same time I feel conflicted because no matter what there will always be students who don’t do their work. Teachers may agree with me in this situation because even if you make a project easy and interesting there will always be those that are either lazy or procrastinate too much and end up not doing what they’re asked to. As teachers you all know that, that doesn’t need to be the case, we have to help them avoid that. We all have to make an effort to change students ways and we have to make sure that no one in class is falling behind. It’s a teacher’s job to motivate students to do their best and treat them as your own children. Gramann also stated “I feel motivated because because the teachers make me feel worth it.” This alone should show teachers that they have to motivate their students and support them the whole way. They need help and our role is to be there for them as much as we can, to make sure that they get help. We can’t let them fall behind…

The vision, mission and objectives of the school are the "educational platforms" that addresses the schools beliefs, and it helps to create a "community mind. These identifies as a critical quality of leadership. An educational leader creates this three (3), the mental picture of the school and seeks agreement and action of teachers and the school community. According to Fritz (1996), school improvement is accomplished when a clearly understood vision, mission and goals exists. Tension develops between the real and ideal pushing workers to reduce the gap. These challenges everyone in the school environment and has a unifying effect causing people to work closely together, work collaboratively with the school community to develop and maintain a shared vision, mission, and common goals. Bring the school vision, mission and goals to life by using it to guide decision making about students and instructional programs. These maintain faculty focus on developing learning experiences that will enable students to prosper in subsequent grades as adults and maintain open communication with the school community and effectively convey high expectations for student learning to the community. It also provides opportunities and support for collaboration and the exchange of ideas experimentation with innovative teaching strategies, and on-going school improvement.…
