El Bola
El Bola is a movie from 2000 that circles around child abuse. Pablo is an adolescent boy who lives in a poor area with his father who abuses him and his mother who does not do anything to help. Pablo than meets Alfredo at school, and they instantly get along. One day,
Pablo angers his father, thus leading to a violent situation. Alfredo afterwards sees injuries on
Pablo’s body and tells his parents, who hire a social worker to try and help Pablo live with a better family. This movie was interesting since it was different from the average chickflick, to be quite blunt. It touched on emotional subjects and involved children who faced obstacles in their lives. The movie in my opinion is a film that reveals the life of the less fortunate and how others can help. It does not idolize any factor of the social classes, and has a satisfying ending for the child who suffered abuse. I liked how the movie had a protagonist that helped Pablo find a happy ending, because I know in some cases, there are victims who do not get the help they need in an abusive situation. The movie was great for me personally, and I would recommend it to others to watch (only if they do not mind the trigger/touchy subjects). It is a realistic film with a copacetic end.
