“Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the spread of information between an individual or an organization and the public. Public relations may include an organization or individual gaining exposure to their audiences using topics of public interest and news items that do not require direct payment. The aim of public relations by a company often is to persuade the public, investors, partners, employees, and other stakeholders to maintain a certain point of view about it, its leadership, products, or of political decisions.” Anon (n.d) .Public relations serves as an intermediary between an organization , its stakeholders and its publics, it is also considered as a form of managed behavior to achieve certain goals and objectives within the organization. Public relations is also defined as the relationships that the organization builds and maintains with its publics and these relationships are constantly under a lot of pressure because of changes and innovations in the political, social, economical and social ,economic and technological environments. Cutlip.SM (2002).The student has chosen a topic which will highlight and discuss the specific trends which may have an influence on the public relations landscape, and there will be examples given on each of the following trends, environmental, social, cultural and political. This particular topic has been chosen by the student because she found it quite fascinating to discover how the above mentioned trends interlink with the public relations landscape.
The environmental trend is first aspect that will be discussed. The environment has to do with our surroundings and everything that goes on in and around our surroundings. This may include natural resources and raw materials and sustainability which has to do with how we can preserve our resources for usage in the future. “ Systems theorists
