Elie Wiesel is a Jewish survivor of the holocaust who shares his experience in the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp. This book is still very important because people need to be shown how imperative it is to stand up for what is right and to challenge society to make the world a better place for everyone. The book follows Elie starting from the young age of 12, living in Sighet. He begins to describe his journey that all started when he and his family were moved into the ghettos, with many other of his friends and community. Revealing how he was forced to leave his home and leave many of his possessions behind while being told that no harm would come to them. Then later being crammed into train freights to be transported to concentration camps. Once at the camp, revealing the horrible cruelty and heavy workload he was subjected to. The emotional roller coaster you experience while reading makes the book so intriguing and relatable. Although the book's content is very heart wrenching, Wiesel never gives up and his survival is simply astonishing. The book really makes one reflect on themselves and leaves you with a desire to be more aware of one’s surrounding and to just simply make the world a better place.
